You'd think an ivy league-educated man like Ted Cruz would know about the party realignment of the 1960s. He knows. The Republican argument about the realignment is that once Democrats lost the ability to control minorities by law they shifted to influencing them through media conditioning and government benefits instead. The GOP often uses various racist politically opportunist comments from president Lyndon B. Johnson to push the claim. (and more recently various racial gaffes from the Clintons and Biden) Basically they're saying that Dem leaders never changed their beliefs, just their methods, and are still using minorities for the sake of power.
