It's typically relatively easy to catch up to wherever things are. With the exception of starting fresh that is (since there's so much MSQ and it is all required). I don't know if WoW is still like that, but it used to be that if you took a break, you'd fall behind on whatever the current expansion had for a grind and be held back from current content, with the risk of missing out on it entirely. But mood wise, XIV is kind of... anime.
