Gwens death could have been easily avoided. Her father warned Peter to stay away from his daughter, saying, Your life is dangerous, and it could get her killed. But Peter refused, confident in his ability to weave that amazing web. Then, during the final fight, Gwen joined him. She was just an ordinary person; why would she insert herself into the middle of a superhero battle? While I didnt want her to meet Gwens fate, this is the realistic outcome that would occur whenever a hero tells someone to stay put, and they insist on getting involved.

For instance, in one episode of Star Trek, the crew was about to visit a planet known for its rape gangs. The ships doctor insisted on going down there, despite Worfs advice to send someone else since she was the main doctor on the ship. Like that would not have had great outcome. But over and overpeople go to places that they shouldn't and either save the day or get out unharmed.
