Besides the picking and choosing stuff, claiming that opposition of LGBTQ+ rights is in the name of God can sound honorable if any doesn't put much critical thought into it.

And yeah even people on the fence on matters do take those claiming such at face value.

1. If a person isn't willing to impose every relevant scripture on themselves, doing so to another is either bitterness only or feeling above others.

Which I'm sure falls into false idols and gods territory.

2. Also not following every rule while stating it's the reason to makes laws against LGBTQ+ folks is going against the "Thou shall not lie".

3. No contradictions here, but I would argue that besides tarnishing any good will for one's religion that others might have, it's also dragging God's name through the mud.

And religion or not, I think everyone against LGBTQ+ rights know they are in the wrong or they wouldn't bow out when details of their argument are disproven or just dogging.

Keeping up a discussion and putting thought into what's being said, they obviously fear concession that they were wrong and spent too much time being wrong.
