IIRC, it's also in some of Paul's letters in the New Testament, though much of what he says in those flies directly in the face of what Jesus in the Gospels says.

Supposedly, three different "Pauls" (not counting the character who appears in Acts of the Apostles, formerly named "Saul") were running around, using the name of the Biblical character to grant themselves "authenticity" and perceived authority in the early church (similar to the titles of the Gospels using the names of Apostles, despite being written long after they supposedly lived and died), based on scholarly analysis of writing style, contents, etc. It's even been suggested that all of the letters supposedly written by "Paul" were done so centuries after the Biblical character supposedly lived.

So it's quite possible that, even if Jesus really existed and was everything the Bible claimed that he was, he wouldn't necessarily have approved of any of these Pauls warping his teachings in ways that the Evangelical crowd would later embrace over the word of their supposed God.
