Because criticism of Israel's government is what makes up the vast majority of the "antisemitism" that people are claiming is increasing. As soon as discussions about the general trend rather than the specific incident came up, that became a very relevant point.

No its not. Antisemitism is antisemitism. Its been around for centuries. You can sugar coat it all you want, but the fact remains is that people arent drawing swastikas on federation buildings or writing kanye was right about the Jews or calling for a second holocaust because of what is going on in Gaza.

That would be like blaming racism against blacks on black on black crime. People were racist well before that. And they are still racist even towards people who do not engage in that kind of a behavior.
