Oops, I suck at cagefighting

Like I told Shaza, I do not regret this fight at all.

I mean, obviously, I wish I had won but that goes for like 100% of all fights ever.

Basically, I think I was really well-prepared for this fight from a technical standpoint and I fully believe it was a winnable fight for me. I didn't really get that nervous, I was just waaay too complacent.

It's the same problem I have with tennis. I am not aggressive enough. I am too much of a counterpuncher and I just need more ferocity or something.

Either way, the guy was a wrestler with basically no stand up fighting skills. First round started and I landed a kick in his left ribs that didn't do all that much (that kick, I'll admit, sucked because of my nerves). After that, he took me down and was in full mount the rest of the round. Luckily for me, his punches were terrible. All he was able to do was remove my contacts.

Second round started and I opened with a front kick to his chest (kind of caught his chin too). This was my only opening the whole fight because he tucked his head down but didn't protect it and I could have easily ended the fight with a knee or at least knocked him down with a right uppercut. Instead I chose to flail wildly with a terrible right hook followed by a left uppercut that he blocked.

He then took me down again and unfortunately for me, this time he was using his elbows. I was able to fend most of them off but when a huge right elbow to my left eye rocked my head to the canvas, it bounced back up into another right elbow and eventually two more before the ref stopped it.

Broken nose (7th time it has been broken, first from a fight), both eyes eventually swollen shut and what I believe was a fracture somewhere in my jaw. Still clicks if I open it wide enough.

All in all, an embarrassing performance but I don't regret the experience at all. I just wish I had performed better.

And less than a month later, I tore my labrum (already told that story) and moved to Texas, where I did not resume my training. I think my arm would be fine to train again but I don't have the kind of time/desire to train the way I did while I was in college.
