1 is really flawed gameplay-wise. 2 kills it in pretty much every category.
Going back to play them in the GoW collection REALLY puts this in perspective
"man, spectacle aside, this Hydra boss is actually really boring gameplay wise"

"Man, you don't have all the cool moves and magic from the later games :/"
"who seriously thought it was a good idea for this fight sequence to last this long"
Its like they learned how to actually pace their games between GoW1 and GoW2.
