The album I've connected with most strongly on an emotional level is Sigur Ros's Agaetis Byrjun, and I have no idea what they're singing about. So yeah, I'm firmly in the "lyrics don't really matter" camp.
It's one thing to say lyrics aren't necessary. It's another thing to say no lyric, ever, has connected with you.
