This project, however blatantly money-making as it would be, has been something of a nearly-impossible task money-wise almost on par with the old "FFVII remake" thing. Y'see, TNG was filmed in such a way that actually makes it significantly more difficult to up-convert to HD than TOS, which received Blu-Ray treatment several years ago.
Same goes for DS9 and Voyager, unfortunately -- it's just the method which was used in the 1990s that makes things arduous. And very, very expensive.
Seems TNG's enduring popularity (and its upcoming 25th anniversary) is making the impossible possible though if all the rumors swirling about lately are to be believed. The DS9 diehard in me only hopes that the technology developed to bring this about will then be used to give Sisko's crew the added shine they deserve.
