In amongst all the drama over that penalty, one point that nearly got lost was the fact that Brazil changed takers - from Cristiane to Marta - between the first attempt and the second. Is that even legal?

There is nothing in the referee handbook that covers it. I was pretty sure this was the case but I just checked mine (albeit slightly out of date since I haven't reffed a game since 2005/6 ish) and there is absolutely zero mention of it. Pretty certain it will not have been changed as it basically never changed and any major revision/addition was always backed up with a letter from them.
Quick research (and the fact it's missing from the handbook) says that it is allowed. Personally I don't agree with that but yeah, it isn't illegal.
