As I recall it went something like
*Madoka spoilers*
Madoka becomes a magical girl with the power to destroy all witches, and spends the rest of her existence doing that, in complete isolation from anything but shadow distortion things or whatever
Homura retains the memory of Madoka, the girl she went back in time like 10000 times to try and save, and remembers her but can never see her again cause she doesn't exist
I don't see how that's good for either character. Madoka doesn't seem like she's doing it except out of obligation, and Homura is permanently unable to see Madoka who she was basically in love with and clearly wanted to make sweet lesbian love to. But it's all "okay" because Homura is safe and Madoka is "saving the world?" F that. Seems like a crappy deal for both of them. Maybe good for humanity but who cares about humanity that's not what the show was about.
