Eh I think it depends on how well you get along with your players, there. I don't recall any issues.

But it's also how workable your hosing is to get around. For instance just giving every enemy the ability to see invisible would neuter the problem ninja outright, but that just makes it not fun for him. But if you have very narrow hosing methods that are clearly identified and possible to defeat, that makes it fun for the DM and the player imhhho. I've done other things that were less hilarious like have a wizard that spams glitterdust in the fight that the ninja would need to prioritize to do his thing, or monks that catch thrown weapons, etc etc.

Obviously if the power gamer is ridiculously far ahead of everyone else then the approach becomes more and more difficult to take and yeah you gotta talk to your players at that point-- but I've never had to even when the party isn't exactly balanced. The illusion that everyone is balanced/useful is more important than them actually being that.
