This topic will attract well-read people. I ask you: what do you think is the most recent book to be considered a literary treasure and possibly (or even probably) be widely adopted into academic curriculum one or two generations from now?
Terry Pratchett's got to be in with a shot. High fantasy, philosophy, social commentary, and an exploration of the nature of literature within a literary setting.
In fact, on that last one, I'd love to see what some academics make of Jasper Fforde.
