I think the Wii was the only console I did this for, my main reason was the launch date was right before christmas. Had I waited I would have missed out on the fun of having Wii Sports while the family were around at christmas and would have had to get TP on the cube instead.
As it turned out Nintendo didn't re-release the Wii, significantly reduce the price and I liked the Wii controls for that particular game just fine so it was a smart purchase.
On the contrary I didn't buy a PS3 at launch, I waited for the "better deal" in a year or so. My reward was a console without PS2 backwards compatibility. fffffffffffff
