WCW Nitro
Airdate:
July 1st, 1996
Arena/Location: USAir Arena in Landover, Maryland
Commentators: Hour One: Larry Zbyszko and Tony Schiavone. Hour Two: Eric Bischoff and Bobby Heenan

Tony and Larry are at ringside once again. They are hyping up the PPV, when Diamond Dallas Page shows up and complains about his Lord of the Ring ring being stolen. He wants the building closed and everyone strip searched. That was odd. We get a video of last week’s main event as The Outsiders come to ringside and have a bit confrontation. Let’s get to our first match!

Match One: The Steiner Brothers vs. Harlem Heat© for the WCW World Tag Team Championships

Booker T comes out yapping on a cell phone. In 1996, that was supposed to imply that they were loaded and important. In 2011, it implies that he’s just like everyone else. I guess the next time we see them, they’re going to have a brand new computer.. With WINDOWS 95! Ooo.

Also, I’m sure some are wondering ‘why aren’t Sting and Luger staking in their rematch clause?’ Two things: One, Sting and Luger are fighting for something more important than the tag titles: WCW. Two, Scott and Rick both have a singles win over Booker T and Stevie Ray, respectively. It makes sense that they get the shot.

Stevie Ray and Booker T work over Scott Steiner for most of this contest. Col Parker makes his way down to ringside early on, and he has a cell phone as well. Hmm.. A pivotal moment comes when Booker and Scott knock each other out with a clothesline. Scott makes it to his partner first! Rick’s in, hit’s a few slams on both Booker and Stevie. Scott is back up and hit’s a frankensteiner on Booker T. He goes for the pin, but he’s not the legal man. Rick is going for the bulldog off the top turnbuckle now, but Parker hits Rick with his cane! Booker T covers him for the win!

Winners, and STILL WCW World Tag Team Champions: Harlem Heat

Both teams did alright, but it didn’t feel like either team was on their ’A’ game here. **½

Mean Gene in the VIP section interviewing the Four Horsemen. Basically, it’s hype for a big eight man tag team main event tonight. The Four Horsemn vs… Joe Gomez, The Renegade, and the Rock ‘n Roll Express. If I was a betting man, I’d put my money on the group that didn’t consist of a jobber, a failed expy, and has beens. Heheh. Arn said do do. This is basically hype for a match that we all know which team will win.

Another Blood Run Colds promo. It’s the same one that we saw last week.

Match Two: Disco Inferno vs. Kurasawa

Disco, before this match starts, dances. He tells them to stop his music, asks the audience if they want to see him dance. We just saw him dance. He wants them to hit his music but instead Kurasawa’s music is hit.

Kurasawa dominates the matchup, but Disco tries to intimidate Kurasawa by emulating the Karate Kid movies. That fails spectacularly. Disco on the outside now and, in frustration, kicks the steel steps. He grabs his foot and starts screaming. Kurasawa is looking to pin Inferno when Disco’s music starts playing. An Elvis? Impersonator comes out disco dancing. While this is going on, Disco is asking for the disco ball to be dropped. He throws it at Kurasawa.. And gets the win. The f***?

Winner by.. disco ball: Disco Inferno

Now that was just plain silly, but funny. *¾
