*SPOILERS for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City*

.

Badass, psychopathic, and everything in between, I thought Tommy Vercetti was the perfect protagonist for a Grand Theft Auto game, though I know why people might've preferred the others. But for me, Tommy was the man, a wisecracking badass who didn't take crap from anyone, and if you crossed him, you were gonna pay. Dishing out hilarious one-liners while causing all sorts of carnage, Tommy Vercetti helped make Vice City fun and one of the best games I've ever played, listening to his hilarious justifications for brutally mugging people or throwing down with cops made every murderous rampage special. Vercetti was, of course, at his best in the cutscenes, dishing out some rude words to anyone who dared try to boss him around,he had that killer edge that later GTA protagonists lacked. The journey Tommy went through, from small-time thug to kingpin of Vice City, was incredibly well done and you got to take Tommy through it all. Watching as Tommy rose to power, clashing with foes like Sonny Forelli, Lance Vance, and of course Ricardo Diaz along the way, Tommy did things his way and provided one of the most entertaining rises to power in video game history. Since GTA: Vice City was such a wide-open game, you could essentially make Tommy into whatever you wanted him to be, but he always retained that which made him awesome, whether you were rescuing injured people and putting out fires or running down old ladies with a tank, Tommy Vercetti did things in style and never looked bad in the process. I never understood why he didn't do better in the contests, was it GTA backlash or did people just not like him? Whatever it was, I'd advise the critics to fire up Vice City and open your ears, you'll hear the voice of Vercetti and be instantly amused.
