I love characters like Luna Lovegood, the sweet, slightly loopy, very funny sort of characters that steal your heart and make you laugh at the same time. I saw Luna Lovegood first in the movie, I didn't get around to reading the books until very recently, but even in movie form I could tell that Luna was an awesome character. Very little fazed her, though you could still see how much it hurt her feelings to have people picking on her. Evanna Lynch's portrayal of Luna was amazing and another of the reasons I was so charmed by her. Luna is a very honest but also a very sweet person, not afraid to tell people the truth but still infectiously kind, she is of course strange but it's the adorable kind of strange that makes you just want to leap into the screen or the book and give her a hug. The thought of people picking on her and ESPECIALLY the thought that she may have been tortured by Death Eaters during the Deathly Hallows made my blood boil, you just don't hurt characters like that! I was touched by just how much Luna treasured the friendships she'd made, the fact that she'd decorated her room with pictures of them made me almost weep. Luna's voice in the film was absolutely perfect, a soft sing-song type of voice that I found utterly adorable. I also tend to love characters who, while soft and sweet on the outside, are strong and badass on the inside, and Luna of course had that in spades, using powerful spells to fight off Voldemort's minions and protect her friends when she had to. Luna ended up being by far my favorite character in all the Harry Potter series, the perfect kind of quirky girl for this strange but wonderful universe and a beam of sunshine even in the darkest of times.
