*SPOILERS for Final Fantasy VI*

.

One of the most complex characters in the entire Final Fantasy series, Celes is perhaps the true hero of Final Fantasy VI, though of course that's entirely up for debate. She ended up being my favorite of all the heroes in the game, her character arc was incredibly well-written and though she started out as an evil general in the Empire, she ended up being one of the game's most caring characters, with incredible strength of will (and excellent singing abilities to boot!). Her introduction was quite interesting as she was found and rescued by Locke after being tortured by Imperial guards, from then on she and the rest of the party treated her with varying degrees of trust and her relationship with Locke was probably my favorite romance in the entire series. Here's this thief looking for someone to protect and meeting Celes by rescuing her, and then of course as it turns out she's not someone who usually needs protecting, putting Locke in an awkward position to be sure. Celes got REALLY awesome toward the halfway mark of the game, when Kefka offered her a chance to join him and she stabbed him right in the gut, proving once and for all her loyalty to the party. Then of course there's the second half of the game and that heartrending scene where Celes attempts suicide, perhaps the darkest video game moment I'd ever seen up to that point in my gaming life. Celes was also a very useful party member, kicking ass with both magic and a sword, and it heps that she's quite pretty to boot. Definitely one of the characters I make an effort to keep in my party at pretty much all times, Celes is still one of my all time favorite RPG girls, my admiration for her has only grown with each subsequent playthrough of the game. Though Terra is a beautiful character and has a great story arc in her own right, the shining star of the game is definitely Celes, one of my all-time favorite Final Fantasy characters.
