There really weren't many people it could have been.
If you assume it's not Alder or the previous protagonists, and that it's not N or Ghetsis, and that it's someone who was BW1, it really only could have been Iris, Marshal, or Cheren, and we already knew Cheren was a low level gym leader. Iris only disappoints me because she's the second dragon champion.
