This topic makes me realize that, man, nostalgia is a powerful thing.
On Resident Evil 5 -> "God, the AI is so stupid! Why am I required to have a second player to fully enjoy the game?!"
On Secret of Mana -> "Why are people complaining about the singe-player? The only correct way to play is with two players, obviously! Can't blame the game because you have no friends!"

Well the main YouTube user I watch LPs from never played Secret of Mana until the late 2000s and never experienced the multiplayer and its a top 30 game for him anyway.
The other main YouTube user I watch LPs from considers it his favorite game of all time and he sucks at multiplayer games.
This has all painted the image that Secret of Mana is not a multiplayer-focused game, while RE5 is.
