ah, there's your mistake, LTM. cons are a far better measure to see the extremes of each fanbase.
pokemon will get a crapton. 'casual' pokemon fans are lost amongst the rest and there is no way to tell them apart when a pokemon game releases. it's no exaggeration to say that when HG/SS came out, everyone had a Pokewalker. this isn't some crazy exaggeration, i'm talking at least 80% of the con, Pokewalkers. panel happens? pokewalker. closing ceremony? pokewalker. during a concert, pokewalker. casuals are a good portion sure, but just by numbers, the hardcore base is heavy.
they're also easy to cosplay. have seen a wide range of MLP fans. the crazy types, the far more normal and its various shades. considerably more normal than crazy. either they don't do cons (unlikely) or they also know how things are. i mean you can have a chick cosplay rainbow dash or something and you'll have 'em all come out, but even THAT isn't any worse than a well done cosplay of something else.
