I think right about $120ish or so you start getting into "wow, so this is how good music can sound?" with music you've been listening to for years. When you hit $400, you hear stuff you've never heard before in those same songs.

Does this happen with the typical 192 kbps mp3s? Or even the 320 kbps?


If you have a crappy source then it's going to sound crappy. BUT crappy MP3s don't necessarily totally eliminate things you wouldn't have heard with worse headphones. You definitely hear it but it's wasted on anything below 320 or V0 MP3s. I use mostly FLAC and V0 mp3s. For instance, some of the best headphones out there are praised because of their wide soundstage and how accurate they are. That accuracy is lost with 192 and below, ya know?
