Hussie works on Homestuck from dawn to dusk. It's a stated fact that he could take a 13 year break and STILL have the fastest update rate of all webcomics.
He's very obviously working on a flash, and probably has been since the last minor break. This DD intermission was probably to avoid a long puase before the flash hits.
