what exactly are the persona games "about"? and what is their battle style?
also, I don't really need suggestions from before the ps1 generation, as I already am aware of what most people consider good from before then for the most part.
Persona 3 and 4 are about groups of high schoolers who fight monsters called Shadows that show up in weird dungeons. You control the main character, and you make friends with classmates in order to power up your Personas, which is what the students use to fight. It's kind of a monster collecting thing in that you can switch the main character's out for others. So it's 50% high-school/dating sim, 50% dungeon crawler. It's better than it sounds.
Both use turn-based combat.
