It's so easy to sum up a generation in a single sweeping generalization.
The male characters are not used in the "best way possible." They're identical to most side characters of any other drama. If anything, what you described them as is EXACTLY what I'd expect from a ho-hum show. It's really easy to be honest in writing a script. It's also really easy to be campy and conventional.
And to the lack of immorality being presented with their sex lives - so what? Is that how other drama's would present these kinds of sex lives? Why does that hold any credence to what is of value?
