Stats were never about customization anyway, because 95% of good builds had:
Str and Dex: Enough for items
Vit: The rest
Energy: None
So yeah I can't say I mind them taking stats out.
My concern (if I recall correctly on how skills work) is that you no longer level skills and that they sorta just auto-level with you and you get all of them? That seems like a lot of customization removal. I mean, the runes thing will help, but eh, I dunno.
They auto-level, but you only have so many slots for skills, so you're picking and choosing between them while adding different rune effects. There is more customization than D2, and it isn't as restricting - if you don't like something you can revert it.
