But the topics that show up lately tend to be intentional troll topics, or people who are convinced within the first 10 posts.
The thing that made the debates interesting in 2003 was that the arguers were actually using a valid, consistent axiomatic alternative to the real numbers. So every time someone posted a "proof", they would explain how this didn't work in their number system, with perfectly vaid logic for their axioms. And so people would throw more proofs their way, aaand repeat.
The one time I saw a version of the topic recently, the guy had no rebuttal for any of the proofs, and admitted 70 posts in to just trolling. Basically, didn't actually believe what he was arguing for.
