Grade school education quality is low, and schooling staff salaries have been frozen/lowering for the past few years. Public college tuition is going way up, with the net result of students paying as much as they would at a private college, but with more loans.
On what standards is grade school education quality low? Standardized tests? The only reason these are lower here than other industrialized nations is because of poverty rates. Schools with very low poverty rates do have test scores on par with Western Europe. Public college might be too expensive, but people are still getting educated.
