Also I'm not saying Half Life necessarily "aged poorly"-- I probably wouldn't have ever liked it-- I'm just saying that I don't think "you didn't play it when it came out" is a defense that really flies for games. Good games tend to hold up. Bad ones like Goldeneye fold.
On that note Unreal sucks
Quake is okay, though. Well I've only played Quake 3, but it holds up okay even though I wasn't there.
All four Quake games are vastly different, tbqh. Quake 3 holds up well enough, and the first isn't TERRIBLE, but it was kind of an odd mixture between the old and the new that didn't age quite so well.
And Unreal is a good example there. I wouldn't say it sucks per se, the original had some pretty amazing things going for it, but its biggest thing was the graphics, and obviously those just don't age well.
