Following the announcement that some LGBTQ+ members, particularly transgender and queer folks, are not welcome at her salon, a Michigan salon owner has been barred from affiliating with Jack Win Pro, a product line she had used, promoted, and sold there.
According to a since-deleted Facebook post, Christine Geiger advised those looking for hair care services and identified as anything other than a man/woman to seek services at a local pet groomer. She announced that at Studio 8 Hair Lab in Traverse City, some customers are categorically banned because of who they are.
You are not welcome at this salon. Period, she said of transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals.
Geiger claimed that shes fine serving lesbian, gay, and bisexual people, but she drew the line at providing services for the TQ+ people represented in the LGBTQ+ acronym.
The plus symbol, she claimed, represented pedophiles. It does not.
Jack Winn Pro, a hair care products manufacturer, publicly distanced itself from Geigers remarks after they gained national attention on Tuesday.
People on Facebook and elsewhere were outraged at the blatant bigotry demonstrated by the small business owner.
It has come to our attention that disturbing comments have been attributed to one of our product users. We want to make it clear that we disapprove of and reject hate speech in any form. Such actions go against the very values we hold dear and strive to uphold, the company posted on Instagram. The stylist who made those comments no longer has authorization to represent our brand or products.
In the post, Jack Winn Pro committed that the company is investigating the reported incident so that appropriate action can be taken.
We stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and reiterate our commitment to supporting their rights, the manufacturer wrote.
Michigans Attorney General, Dana Nessel, indicated through a spokesperson earlier Wednesday that she knows about Geigers statements.
At the Department, we have received several complaints pertaining to the bigotry exhibited by the salon proprietor in Traverse City, and the Attorney General finds the comments to be hateful, reprehensible remarks that seek only to marginalize a community already suffering from discriminatory animus in Michigan and elsewhere, Nessels press secretary Danny Wimmer told The Advocate.

Russia will regard Western F-16 fighter jets sent to Ukraine as a nuclear threat because of their capacity to carry atomic weapons, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday.

Lavrov spoke of a US plan to transfer F-16s to Ukraine, although Washington has not given the go-ahead for any country to supply them.
Russia cannot ignore the ability of these aircraft to carry nuclear weapons. No amount of assurances will help here, Lavrov was quoted as saying by the Russian foreign ministry.

She makes it pretty clear from her explanation even that it isn't "I'm perpetually late so deal with it", just sort of like "I'm gonna take a 10 minute shower", perhaps they get lost in thought in the shower, and then it turns into 30 minutes.

As someone prone to do just that, it's why I set alarms prior to work or during routine work breaks so I know to snap back to reality.

If I had obligations after work and I sat down to pass time playing a game, I'm either setting an alarm or constantly checking the clock.

I'm not trying to say she's a piece of shit or totally lazy, I get where the struggle can come from but at the same time, the solutions are fairly simple. If you can't make yourself commit to setting alarms or being (remotely) vigilant on keeping an eye on the time then it doesn't speak well for you.

If you tell someone "I'll be around at 3" and you don't show up til 8 because of your time blindness, then you completely wasted someone's time. They're not assholes for not setting future plans with you, they just don't want to schedule something then completely waste their time again.

Regardless, even so, if you want to work somewhere, the onus is mostly on you to actually... Be where you're supposed to be, when you're supposed to be there and do the things you're supposed to do, ideally in a timely manner.

In my line of work it's the bare minimum and known as "right place, right time, right uniform" (which is still too hard for some people).

If someone truly struggles with something like what she's mentioning then it's on the individual to do whatever it is they need to do to ensure they meet their obligations.

An employer or manager should have some willingness or (small) level of forgiveness (least in the short term/adjustment period to a new job) but they also shouldn't be obligated to put up with repetitive lateness or outright absence just because someone can't get their life together

If you travel, go to the Dallas one. I'll be going to San Antonio, but I nearly got a refund when I checked the reviews on Sunday. The IMAX theater hasn't been updated since the 90s. It's flimsy, barely cushioned flipseats with almost no leg room and the place is never clean

Same. The "local" IMAX showing is 30 minutes away from me tho which is like not really super local (or at least I don't really consider it that).

The closest 70mm IMAX showing for me is a little less than two hours away which isn't too bad (have one in the state at least). I'm probably gonna just see it regular tbh. Nearest theater to me of any kind is a four minute drive lol.

I drove 3 hours one way to see Godzilla King of the Monsters in IMAX Laser at the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum outside of DC.

Multi-hour drives aren't really worth it to me for a movie, though I'm not too big on movies overall.

Besides going on leave, I don't see my family.

You can get married and have a family.

I've known some people who got lucky and were from towns/cities next to bases, get stationed at the base so family is near.

Honestly though, having family near can make the job harder, especially when you do have to go away for extended periods of time.
