Not consistent perhaps, but a lot of IV characters have had runs or a few decent placements in the past.

I don't think this is a very popular opinion though. Inviso is asking why V doesn't do better and I think that's why. When was the last time anyone nominated Lenna and Krile? I mean V has just two characters left at this point. The last 3 characters the game had are like the only ones with any semblance of a good history in this contest.

For a lot of people, it was the ONLY pre-6 game they had played. At least one with a storyline and actual characters. Remember FFIV was actually referred to FF2 here in the states for a long time. No one was meant to even known the real II and III existed because well, yeah. They aren't very good.

I think IV is probably a lot of people's, at least Gamefaqs age people's, first exposure to Final Fantasy is terms of world and plot. So IV is always going to hold a special place in their hearts. I'm not saying V has a "bad" storyline really, but it does have a pretty bland cast of characters compared to IV. IV has some fluff and filler, but it has a lot more bulk of quality than V does. V is also weighed down by a bland and boring lead character. Outside of Vaan and Firion, Bartz is definitely the most forgettable lead from any of the games. That's probably the reason he hasn't been back in the contest in a while and why he was hard booted last time he was renominated. Having a bad main character can really weigh down a game. XII is a good example of that too honestly. It fairs better because it's a 3D era game and by default has a deeper storyline and more detailed characters. V doesn't really have that luxury.

Simba is a Genny thing. I think he's probably hanging around in the lower half of my top 10 but I was helping her by the end because she's my wife of course.

My favorite has won (Captain Jack) and I'd be super shocked at him winning again. If you really want year of me, Jack Skellington is probably your best bet.

I think if Auron was going to repeat or at least make a finals run, it would have been last year. His run was on the back of him getting hard booted and falling out of the ECC the year before that. I can't really see him getting that sort of support again. Kinda blew it with the usual GOAT dragging last year. That's a running theme, meaning Auron would have to be the heavy lifter and some GOAT would have to be drug into the finals with him. Not really sure that's in the cards.

Seymour is actually my least fav of the Spira crew left, but I do love me some FFX. When I joined this I didn't plan to be particularly loyal to one game but that may well be where I'm at now, especially as FFVIII looks so very weak.

This is... a little disappointing to learn. Considering Leblanc isn't dead yet too, yikes.

Ah well, back to the drawing board with you Martin. Let me know when you figure it out.
