Vincent looked pretty weak leading up to his elimination quite honestly. He was within 10 seconds of being eliminated by Seymour of all people. I can't really imagine him making a finals run this contest; he just never had it in him.

Alternatively, I'm not sure what would have happened if Seymour had outlasted Vincent. Many Vincent supporters would have switched to Seymour, but still probably not enough to make the finals but possibly enough to outlast Rikku, therefore possibly picking up more supporters from her. Hard to really know for sure I guess, but at the end of the day I still think Lightning had this in the bag had she been here.

I think you can be reasonably confident though. Lightning going out only really affected the strength of the other FFXIII characters, and her being in would have affected them all negatively obviously. There really wasn't a large amount of crossover between any other characters around. You can never be certain, but at some point Cid P had that all too familiar air about him that made him destined for the finals.

So the least votes in the finals since the abysmal blowout that was Contest XII; and every other contest since has had more votes in the end round.

Just a bad all around final, there was nothing redeeming about this because of how polarizing it was to see. Way too user-centric and unnatural. I still have a hard time wrapping my head around this having been the final of this contest. It's really too bad Lightning had that happen, because as it turns out I think this contest was hers to lose. There's little chance she wouldn't have ended up the winner I think, and it's unfortunate it didn't happen because I agree this will hamper her ability to win in the future now. Though I'm not a fan at all myself, having not played XIII still, it would have been nice to get that victory out of the way here when it was so clear cut. Fang got to run into a finals with total apathy while Lightning was put into two finals against unstoppable trains. I'm still a bit annoyed with that situation; not with Eddv for making a mistake, because those happen. More with the FBike/Janus withholding of info maliciously. The blame is squarely on them for this final happening imo.

But yeah, sure. Congrats to someone, I guess?

The funny thing is I think if Fang wins this it really hurts Lightning's chances in the long run. Not that Fang's fans should consider that when saving her, but like... of all the FFXIII characters to win it's Fang of all characters? I could see that souring the waters to taking pity on Lightning and actually supporting her to actually win-- which is easier than it used to be because a lot of her anti-voters have dissociated from the contest over the years.

I mean, Lulu was the first winner from X and she did it by beating what most people consider the best/most popular character.

I have to have some base for the contest though, otherwise there wouldn't be one. As an example, I would argue that Jack Skellington is more of a "king" than Kairi is a "princess". Jack is the de facto leader of his world basically, there is no other "pumpkin king" each year. He's essentially supposed to be the king of Halloween. Not to mention as most know, one of my favorite characters ever.

However I didn't allow him in Royalty despite that. I just wanted to put that out there to show that I do make decisions that are unbiased as best I can, I just don't want feelings to get hurt here if I decide something against what some people want.

Believe me, I don't think much of her as a princess but she unfortunately fits the definition just fine. Yuffie is going to be one of those characters I like but probably never vote for because I'm personally opposed to it. She's by definition a princess, but her plot has nothing at all to do with it generally.

Lord Godo is not King Godo. Yuffie isn't a princess.

"Ruler" is honestly good enough because that would possibly take out more than just Yuffie. He's the ruler of Wutai, and Yuffie is his daughter. It's a lot like Pocahontas, or Moana, or a lot of characters really.

Emily - In (and curious what flipped you around since the last time you talked about it)

I haven't played the game, so if you want to debate it with scarlet's points:

-It seems like the first game she is in, she has a much smaller role and reduced screen time.
-She's a player character in sequel games and isn't a princess in these.

I really can't judge how much the first game impacts her character or what legacy it leaves on her. So feel free to point some things out since I'm still undecided.

One other mentioned was Wendy O. Koopa.

This is an interesting case because Nintendo decided to retcon her being Bowser's daughter at all, which would render her invalid for this contest. Under their current canon, she's just a minion of his. I'm honestly unsure which direction to head with this since my biggest memories of this character she is indeed his daughter.
