I don't know. The ending had me reeling for a bit the first time I saw it. It was fantastic. I watched the alternate ending which is basically just the last shot of the "reveal" cut out and it's like a wet fart in comparison. The alternate ending also has the family not noticing so it has no real impact.

cheesy horror movies like that are ate up at the movies.. especially a cheesy horror Christmas movie

This is the opposite of the Blumhouse model of cheap assembly line horror movies that people love to pay money for. It was still fairly cheap but looks like a huge risk on paper. Apparently the only way he got them to say yes was to bump it down to PG13.

Yeah? I said that. Doesn't change the fact no ones ever heard of it. There's a reason every single time it's mentioned it's referred to as Cult Classic Trick r Treat. A cult classic with average reviews doesn't give you much dick swinging power in Hollywood.

How did Michael Dougherty walk up to some suits at Universal and say "I'd like to make a Christmas horror comedy where a dysfunctional family gets attacked by horrific versions of toys led by evil Santa. Oh, also it'll have a ton of practical effects and costumes and it'll have an ambiguous downer ending where everyone dies and fucking goes to hell. Hows 15 million sound?" How did this get greenlit by a big studio? Does he have dirt on some studio exec? The only movie he made before was Trick r Treat which wasn't exactly a hit but he has enough clout to get Krampus greenlit? Then, after making two movies which, although great, have middling reviews and no one saw, he gets Godzilla? Is Michael Dougherty a witch?

Well, they are working on System Shock 3 as well as remaking both 1 and 2. We'll have to wait quite a while to see how they end up but we're pretty well covered on the System Shock front.

We don't need any more Bioshock.

Make a new game with a new IP that has a good concept. Don't recycle old stuff and pretend it's brand new, especially if you're not going to involve anyone from Irrational.

As long as it's good I don't really care what's on the box. And the world can always use more Bioshock-esque games.

Don't worry too much about the number itself and just work on gradual lifestyle change. If you say "I'm gonna cut all junkfood and soda cold turkey" you're probably not going to be able to keep up with it. Start doing body weight exercises and things you can do at home instead of buying a gym membership that you might use once. Just buy healthier foods, look up new recipes to motivate yourself to cook rather than eat out. You can still have junk sometimes but don't treat it like a "cheat day", just do it when you want to.

It's got some really good action scenes and great kills. The Uber Predator and the Stargazer program were cool ideas as well as some of the fleshed out mythology. Shane Black is still a great writer and the characters were a lot of fun; the meet cute in the bus was great. It's still not great but, compared to a lot of its contemporaries that have been dragged through the mud lately, the franchise is doing pretty alright. The only place it really falls apart is where the studio fucked Shane Black over and they had to film most of the movie over again and salvage something from it, so the editing gets lost in the sauce. And of course, the weaponized autism is pretty dumb. People just went in wanting it to fail. They only knew Black from Iron Man 3 so they decided this movie sucked right out of the gate, but if you look at his imdb his track record is pretty fucking great, he just got royally screwed here.

This is ultimately the endgame here. Normalization.

For example, 99% of romantic comedies are about a heterosexual man and a heterosexual woman. That's just how things are, it's normal.

But if one is about someone gay then a lot of people make a fuss. For better and for worse. There are gay people who are happy because representation is essentially acknowledgement that they exist, and that it's perfectly fine that they do. They just want gay to be perfectly normal and mundane as being hetero is. It's hard to do that when they're barely in media, and when they do it's either as a punchline (Which happens much less these days), or if people are going to complain it's "forced". That's not to say someone can't boutch it up....

Tldr: The underrepresented just want to be on the same level as what is considered the norm.

Definitely agree.Too many people call attention to it so they can pat themselves on the back which annoys other people and now it's a whole cycle. Just do it and move on. Annihilation came out a few years ago and it was an almost entirely female movie with a good gay character and no one talked about it. Honestly I wish more people talked about that movie because it was great but I love that they just made the movie they wanted to and moved on.

Umbreon posted... True, not everyone. The issue is literally anything can be written off as "arbitrary" or "pandering". Where do we draw the line?

Who knows? Everything is gonna piss someone off. Best to just tone down on the legit pandering and ignore the people complaining about nothing.

Because a lot of people really really fucking hate that LGBT+ is a thing. A gay couple, no matter how subtle is, "Shoving their agenda down our throats" but centuries of "Boy meets girl" is just a normal thing what's the problem?

Let's be real here, most of it is pretty ham fisted pandering. There certainly are bigots but not everyone who rolls their eyes at the idea of it is a homophobe.

There definitely are people but, yeah, I don't really get it. I've never needed to see a cishet white dude in order to consume a piece of media, and I don't understand why people need to see people like them. Maybe it's because I always have been represented, but it really seems like people just need to ease up about the fictional media they consume. \_()_/
