So it sounds like you would fix the game by giving more time to highlight the characters' personalities and draw those personalities out more in the dialogue of the game. Doesn't sound like a "complete character overhaul" is in order at all. I mean, this sort of attitude is why critical thought is dying everywhere.

Also, I don't think you get to say you're "fixing a game" if you are destroying the integrity of the plot and characters and world the creators built.

"Built" is a pretty strong word for the characters in VIII. The whole point is you could take out all the characters and replace them with any other characters and the plot of the game wouldn't suffer. Theyre like chrono cross characters.

So the difference is in my example I'm not completely disrespecting the writers and artists and creators by saying that an entirely new game should be created from scratch, and in your example, you don't understand that you are completely dismissing the intent of the creators and their vision. For example, at my shop, I've been asked many times how I would fix the Suicide Squad movie. I don't completely negate the entire plot. I may add some scenes or remove some scenes, but I keep the overall plot and characters intact, because "fixing" something and just doing what you want are two very separate things. Of course, "the fixes" are subjective, but in one frame of mind you are giving deference to the original creator and attempting to not change the spirit of the game, and in the other, you're being a self-entitled narcissist with a lack of creativity or even critical thinking and throwing away the entire game because "ME NO LIKE THIS CHARACTER" is good enough for you.

Should submit Raw for Emmy consideration

That's not a terrible idea. All you need are a few unique episodes that put a premium on storytelling and not wrestling if you want to jump start a movement for fans to care about the storylines. Really, that's all that is necessary. But, again, you need a fresh, new writer to come in and be given the opportunity to impose their own voice and vision on the show.

You would think bad writers COULD get better with experience

But not when the boss praises their bad writing

Inexperienced writers get better with experience. Bad writers are bad writers. WWE is a company run by people who don't watch television. They don't know what good writing is. They know they need writers, so they get the writers out of the pool of people who apply, and the people who apply are not the cream of the crop. Because if you're good, you get your own show or a job on another person's good show. And if you're bad, you're available. And WWE hires the people that are available. The stigma of writing for WWE is pretty significant in the screenwriting world.

Please elaborate

So the issue wasn't that they thought that it would be approved because the other brand did it, it was approved because the mandate was for X to happen, X being "we need to achieve this goal in order to pursue our endgame." Absolution and Riott Squad exist because they needed women available and they needed them fast. The only way to achieve that end was to introduce new women on both shows, and the only way to reach the quantity necessary was to introduce them as stables, where you can put less of a premium on individual introductions. The issue isn't laziness so much as incompetence. These are the worst TV writers working with a guy who built a company on stealing top stars and relying on these stars to overcome bad writing after a certain point.

So the laziness is in not finding unique ways to achieve Vince's goals. Yes, there are aspects of the shows that are about kowtowing to Vince's bizarre proclivities, but this is an instance of a mandate for a larger goal leaving no real outs for bad writers. Bad writers can't get better. They'll still be bad. There's a reason they aren't working for a TV show that could actually be in Emmy contention. They wanted a Women's Rumble, so they needed to introduce women and these guys couldn't come up with a way to make the pieces necessary for that Rumble interesting. A Women's Rumble is a great idea; the devil is in the details, and the writers have no understanding of little things weighing down big moments.
