Also its a somewhat frequent thing with short term rentals like Airbnb where people book for weeks and never leave, cause now the time they spent in the house qualifies them for squatter rights.

This too. The people you read in squatters stories aren't homeless people just finding a place to stay warm. They're scammers and con artists abusing the system. It's like when there was the eviction moratorium over covid and some renters (an extremely small percentage, I'm sure) decided that since they couldn't be evicted they would just stop paying and save up like a year's worth of rent to go somewhere else.

Always wondered about the squatter problem, assumed it was just renting issues, but laws actually protected people who, without permission, just took up shop in someone's property? That's kinda nuts.

As someone who was homeless, I can understand desperately wanting a place to stay.. but that sure as hell isn't the way to go about it. Damn.

Generally the problem with squatters isn't that they can't be evicted. Generally the problem is that people will discover squatters and have to spend tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees spending months fighting them in courts all the meanwhile they continue to trash the home and pay no money. Then the people who get their homes back at the end are left with a ruined house and months of bills stacked up that are now their responsibility.

It can also be used as the basis for a scam. One of the recent stories somebody posted on ce had the guy who was squatting tell the owner that he had put a few thousand dollars of work into the home and that he would move out if she just gave him the money. So there's definitely a financial incentive to effectively hold people's property hostage knowing that they're two options are either pay you to leave or spend half a year forcing you out while you trash the place.

s0nicfan

Even if he was crucified, the method was likely different. Crucifixion is about asphyxiation and Romans didn't make a habit of nailing people to the crosses. Having your arms tied up like that collapses your lungs and makes it hard to breathe, forcing you to push up against the little stand you're on to catch your breath and sometimes it can take days for people to die. They most likely would not have taken this one individual, put a crown of thorns on his head, and then nail him to his cross. That makes sense from a Christian perspective, but from a Roman perspective he was just another guy sentenced to die. There would be no reason for them to give him any sort of special treatment.

Whether this stands will depend on why Obama's rule was struck down and whether there's been enough technical changes to this rule to let it stand. This is genuinely good, but I don't see why there should be an income cap on it. People who work over 40 hours should be paid overtime, regardless of if they're hourly or salaried, low income or medium income.

The article says why:
The Labor Department in 2016 doubled the salary threshold to about $47,000. A federal judge in Texas the following year said that ceiling was so high that it could sweep in some management workers who are exempt from overtime pay protections, and struck it down.

The new rule is likely to face legal challenges arguing that like the Obama administration rule, it violates federal wage law by including many lower-paid supervisors and professionals who typically would not be eligible for overtime.

Given that this new salary cap is even higher than the Obama one, I expect the same arguments to come into play. Basically, if they set the cap high enough that managers who aren't eligible for overtime fall under it, it creates a legal contradiction.

There was a good long period of maybe a decade where GameStop was going so hard on pre-orders that they would intentionally under stock new games so that if you tried to buy it on release day they would tell everyone they were sold out and they should have pre-ordered.

Beyond artificial scarcity though, you do get the occasional nonsense like that one Arkham games where an entire side story was a pre-order bonus.

So the people with thick accents could just speak in their native tongue.

Pathfinder was originally built by people who didn't like the more streamlined direction that d&d was going in. So if you played baldur's gate and thought that the game could use more options and added complexity, Pathfinder's the direction you'll go in. If you found the systems already too complex or annoying to internalize and manage, modern d&d has that taken care of for you.

This rule only affects salaried work. It would have no impact on hourly jobs.

The article also said that this is basically identical to an executive order Obama passed that was shot down in courts, only this one has an even higher salary cap, so odds are this is more of a performative election year thing and less something that will actually stick around once it's been challenged in courts.

When the boxes are "grey" does that mean those are turned OFF?

I just found it odd they were all selected grey by default. Usually, they would have them all on by default and hope you don't bother with it.

Grey (white circle on the left side) is OFF.

When the EU first rolled out these requirements a lot of sites did a pop-up and once you selected it remembers those preferences but a lot of people just clicked "accept all" and never learned how to turn them off manually.

Honestly that sounds pretty cool. Can't think if Neeson has ever done a comedy before but I can picture him in the role.

That's part of what makes this so perfect. Leslie Nielsen was a serious dramatic actor before naked gun and that movie basically launched his comedy career. It was meant to be intentionally ironic casting him in that role and is why he worked so perfectly as the straight man.

Tl;Dr - when you close your account if you live in the EU you have the right to demand that they permanently remove any and all personal information from their system. The link above explains how to fill out the digital form. Don't leave fandom a scrap of information that they can use to monetize.

How to request Fandom share details of how your information is used (in EU and CE - this is a legal requirement with a 10M euro penalty for non-compliance per failure):
GDPR = General Data Protection Regulation
CCPA = California Consumer Privacy Act

There's no "standard form", but if you write Fandom they are required to respond, under penalties of up to 10M euros or 2% of the entire company's yearly profit for failure to comply in a reasonable time. The exact details of what they are required to provide are below. If you're unhappy with Fandom's latest changes to Gamefaqs, and are planning on leaving the site, at least consider sending a request first (along with your right to be forgotten in the EU) so they have to do all this work.

"Technological measures" means they cannot paywall your guides away from you:
https://wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/License_Versions#Application_of_effective_technological_measures_by_users_of_CC-licensed_works_prohibited
All CC license versions prohibit licensees (as opposed to licensors) from using effective technological measures such as digital rights management software to restrict the ability of those who receive a CC-licensed work to exercise rights granted under the license. To be clear, encryption or an access limitation is not necessarily a technical protection measure prohibited by the licenses. For example, content sent via email and encrypted with the recipient's public key does not restrict use of the work by the recipient. Likewise, limiting recipients to a set of users (e.g., with a username and password) does not restrict use of the work by the recipients. In the cases above, encryption or an access limitation does not violate the prohibition on technological measures because the recipient is not prevented from exercising all rights granted by the license (including rights of further redistribution).
This treatment was re-evaluated during the public process leading to release of the version 3.0 license suite. CC considered arguments in favor of such measures, coupled with an obligation of parallel distribution; these arguments were also reconsidered during the 4.0 process. However, in both versioning processes, those arguments were ultimately rejected.
Note that in 4.0, CC introduced a definition of Effective Technological Measures. This definition is not intended to change the scope of what is and is not allowed, but instead provide long-needed clarification over the scope of the prohibition.

Both scream Hamauzu's style who was the composer for 13

Gongaga reminds me more of Yoko Kanno. Specifically the latter half of Space Lion:

The rebirth soundtrack in general is absolutely top tier and it better win all the soundtrack awards this year.

EDIT: Gongaga hate has to be because navigation is nonsensical. In every other zone outside of maybe Cosmo Canyon it's easy to navigate from point A to point B by looking at the map and charting a course. Gongaga mushrooms seem variable in terms of how far they launch you and where you land, making it difficult to reliably use the map to tell how to get to any particular point.

Kesha's entire music career is just tolerating her awful lyrics until the hook hit.

He's a nice old man with good thoughts that never really figured out how to make them happen, but he would have been a terrible leader. The moment he was running and his own tax proposal paid for less than half of his policy proposal it became painfully clear he never bothered to figure out HOW to make all his grand ideas work.

This and the Guardians trilogy is proof that what the MCU and the DCEU really need is to find creative people passionate about a property and just.... leave them the fuck alone to do whatever it is they do.
