Ghoul
Dancing Mad
World of Nine Wood Hills
Blinded by Light

Ghoul is really good, wow! It has that dynamic "epic" feel that The Airbuster had, but I like Ghoul significantly more. Lots of strong elements.

Dancing Mad is my 1rd favorite Final Fantasy song!!!! Wow!!!!!

Boy, this JENOVA song really ripped off Elebits - Me and My Little War, huh? ;) Nine Wood Hills is a strange arrangement I didn't originally nominate - maybe this is an OST release and my link was an in-game rip? Though I've heard multiple links with my version, so I don't know. I still like it a ton, so it's fine. This is a really tough match, I love both. Siding with Nine Wood Hills, but it's close!

I see we have the "long version" of Blinded by Light. Pretty cool!

Battle 3 is an easy pick for me, though I liked Don't Be Afraid more than I remembered.

Insanity was a nice surprise. Based on how it started, I didn't think I would enjoy it, but I really appreciated how dynamic it is.

Pretty solid third grouping, though I have a clear preference.

I hadn't heard the new Aerith's Theme before. It's very emotive - I think I might like it more than the original. I could also see Streets of Rasbanastre growing on me with subsequent listens.

Servants of the Mountain

I really liked Limit Break! I love the energy and MENACE. The Legendary Beast isn't my thing at all. Endwalker I could barely focus on over all the talking and sound effects, but it's a safe bet that even in the absence of those things, it wouldn't get my vote.

No opinions on the second grouping.

I've always enjoyed Servants of the Mountain. It has that sad, wistful feeling that a lot of Final Fantasy X conveys so beautifully.

I liked Yeul's Theme. The singer really nails it. Ultima, however, is i my top 100 vgm, and it's hard to beat that!

There's a lot with the Vong, like over ten novels worth. I wasn't sure how much to give you (so I gave you literally nothing lol). The Embrace of Pain is one of the most horror-centric things they do.

Oh I also forgot that the skeleton is like encrusted with jewels or something ridiculous, like the Vong wanted to honor the emissary as a hero. It's messed up.

Dang! I was hoping they'd place higher. Ah well.

One thing that always struck me as horrifying about the Yuuzhan Vong (maybe the most horrifying thing) is they're religious fanatics whose religion revolves around pain, inflicting it on themselves and on others. In one book, a peaceful ambassador of the New Republic goes as an emissary to the Vong, and in order to better understand their culture, he's subjected to the Embrace of Pain, a horrible torture device, then he's skinned alive and his skeleton is sent back to the New Republic. I'm pretty sure the Vong thought this was, like, an offer of cultural exchange or something.

comfi beats - dreamy night
This overall production reminds me of Mili do you know them? They mostly do VGM. I like the chill nature of this song paired with the very serious lyrics, its a nice juxtaposition.

Danny Playamaqui - Parsley
I feel like theres got to be a musical term for what this song is doing. These drawn out notes layered over top of each other create this unnerving effect, like something is very off. But also the actual notes feel off too. This is all a good thing I tend to like these uncanny valley type songs that sound like theyve been robotically engineered in certain ways.

Sara Bareilles - Gravity
I tend to be a bit ambivalent on these sad female singer with piano and string accompaniment songs. This is fine but doesnt quite grab me, though I do like her voice.

Manuel Valera & Groove Square - Gliding
Ooh, this is nice. I expected vocals but I am happy to hear a harmonica. I really like how chill this is, but its also very wistful, very evocative of the title. I can see this being a situation of put a band in a room and let them improvise, and its fun to hear with these unexpected instruments.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade - Ephemeral Glory A
Fun fact: I really like Ephemeral Glory B, but I dont think Ive ever heard A. This reflects my piecemeal approach to finding music, where I almost never seek out music based on other music I like. I really like the immersive sounds here, the song very much conjures up the feel of traveling to a strange, potentially hostile land. I actually think I might like it more than B, though its a very different type of song.

Jessie Ware - Spotlight
This song surprised me, because I really didnt like it at first. Like, potentially bottom three. Then the beat kicked in and I think I figured out what it was trying to do a bit more. Its not a particularly flashy song, and that threw me off, but I really really like the easygoing club aesthetic it evokes. Pretty great find!

As an aside, I dont have Spotify this is the version I listened to:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rgy-eAzARNE

They Might Be Giants - End of the Tour
I really dont like this guys voice. It feels a little too monotone for my tastes. The rest of it feels pretty . . . unexceptional? TMBG has a big cult following but I dont know them all that well are all their songs like this?

TM Network - Get Wild
This has 90s anime written all over it, which is a fun subgenre. The production has that rough-around-the-edges feel thats common in songs like this. It doesnt really stand out to me, but its good fun.

Cloudkicker - He Would Be Riding on the Subway...
I like this sort of proggy intro, with shifting meter and building suspense. Oh wait I guess this isnt the intro so much as the whole song not sure why I expected vocals to kick in. Thats fine I think I like this better as an instrumental. Its very ominous and foreboding, lots of tension. Pretty cool!

Antidote Audio - THE SAUSAGE FATTENER IS THE BEST PLUGIN. EVER.
i cant tell if this is an actual nomination or not but i dont see any other songs in the queue for you so uh

Its a commercial of sorts for some audio plugin. It has musical aspects but is mostly a tongue-in-cheek advertisement. The audio thats there is generally unpleasant. The whole thing is a joke that Im not privy to, which isnt inherently bad, but which doesnt work in its favor. It is pretty gross, Ill give it that.

DJ Cummerbund - Play That Funky Music Rammstein
What a strange mashup! It sounds like the chorus is original material, but there is plenty of stuff from other sources. I really dig the guitar solo at the bridge. This is what I was talking about with the idea of creating new stuff from other sources. I can hear Du Hast in a very different way now!

Groove Armada - Don't Give Up
I like the wistfully chill vibe. Its a little repetitive, but thats not a bad thing since I like what it repeats. Parts of this (the vocals mostly) curiously feel like theyve been inserted from different, unrelated songs maybe I just have mashups on the mind.

Harry Nilsson - Joy
I had a hard time with this one until I realized its meant to be a bit silly. I dont find it very funny but at least I have a better handle on what its trying to accomplish. I really really liked the lyric about how if everyone was happy, thered never be a love song, so Joy gets bumped up a bit from that.

Clutch - A Quick Death in Texas
Ooh, I like this dudes voice a lot. Nice warble. I like how this is sort of like country, but with more of a hard rock edge. Song is a lot of fun.

Britney Spears x Rammstein - Du One More Hast
I unironically like mashups like this. I love when two very different songs get blended together to make something with unique flavor. (Sweet Dreams Are Made of Seven Nation Army is probably the gold standard.) It feels like a pretty standard mashup, but its enjoyable to listen to.

Charli XCX - Shake It
oh my god what is this intro I LOVE it

Song continues to be unabashedly weird, with filters and distortions. The whole presentation is pretty discordant and unsettling, and I love songs that go for aesthetics like that.

Kano - CAFUN
I feel this is could turn into dubstep at any point and the anticipation is KILLING me. It sounds like happy casino music, which is a descriptor Ive used on other songs I know you like, though this is less casino and more...fashion runway? I especially like the second half.

Owl City - Fireflies
This guy has an...interesting voice. I cant tell if hes purposely taking on some sort of affectation or if thats how he naturally sings. Not really a fan of this one, sorry!

Caligula's Horse - Songs for No One
I really like 2:00 nice transition from a softer section to a fuller, denser part. I also like 3:15, when it truly commits to a strong rock sound. This song flutters back and forth between sparse and full. It was an especially enjoyable first listen, since I wasnt sure what was coming next.

Master Boot Record - Irc
Chippy synthwave metal, eh? (Again, not the best with genres.) Very spooky. I think Id like this one more if the tempo were a bit faster. Then again...I was going to give this a relatively low ranking, but it really grew on me by the end.

Hanabie - We Love Sweets
This is the twelfth song and its not even in the first time Ive been surprised by stealth metal. Metal is a tough sell for me, but I think theres untapped potential for me to listen to metal in non-English language. I find the sweetly sung sugaaaar charming.

Zero Divide 2 - Misunderstanding
I gave this a ranking of 6.5 back in the last BOST. Feels very proggy and it doesnt always hold my interest, but the parts I enjoy are pretty engaging. Actually, its a curious experience listening to this: it feels like I would enjoy individual chunks of this on their own more than I do as part of a larger whole. Like, give me 15 second increments of this song and I probably rank most of them higher than the total package. What a weird reaction.

I have a soft spot for squeaky voices. This voice, however, has a lot of power behind it, backed by this full production of a band in the chorus.

This is the first song in the topic I replayed immediately, so for that alone its going to the top of the ranking.

1. Gin Wigmore - Bad Got Me Good
2. Enter Shikari - Gandhi Mate, Gandhi
3. Conisch Attack
4. Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride and Joy
5. Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen - Like I Used To

7. Ice Nine Kills - IT is the End
8. BitBurner - Don't Shoot Food
9. Thank You Scientist - Caverns
10. Brand New - Missing You

Enter Shikari - Gandhi Mate, Gandhi
Ooh, this passionate vocal clip at the beginning is great; it really escalates along with the industrial instrumentation. I didnt expect it turn into metal with Pac-Man noises, haha. But I really like that!

lol at the rest of the band telling the singer to calm down

I didnt know I needed leftist punk beepy metal today, but I am so glad I got some!

Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen - Like I Used To
This song strikes me as very timeless, which is a word we commonly use to refer to things that evoke an older era. I honestly get like...Abba vibes from this, or at least Abba with a more rock sound. Maybe its the harmonizing female vocals. Theres definitely Big Sad going on in this song, maybe because it (and the music video) evoke COVID. Very cool.

Chvrches - Death Stranding
At last, a song I can add to my big VGM ranking spreadsheet! (I couldnt add Questioning 2004 because it was an extended link.) This is like...Im really bad with genres if you couldnt tell, but its like pop with big echo effects, like the only way to listen to it is with a subwoofer or in a stadium. Despite this, its shockingly intimate.
