Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations - Questioning ~ Allegro 2004
But I said nothing longer than 15 minutes!

>_>

This might be my least favorite of the original Ace Attorney trilogy questioning themes, although I can't quite think of what Justice for All's sounds like, which might be pretty damning by itself. All I know is I really like the original Questioning themes. This feels a bit...tinny, I guess? Like the notes are pitched a little too high. I also remember this being a lot faster, but I might be making that up. Something I like: I like the subtle little bass in the background, it does a good job at underscoring the tension.

Ice Nine Kills - IT is the End
This song is a trip. Goes from oh-god-going-to-be-horror-soon to outright screaming metal...ska combination? I looked this band up: they specialize in horror-inspired songs, and this is based on IT. I like the evil clown stuff at the beginning. I couldn't understand most of the screamed lyrics (though I did try!) but the whole production seems to be with a wink, like they're inviting the listener to have fun and be spooked together. Maybe you'll come back and tell me that's a total falsehood, but that's the vibe I got!

Thank You Scientist - Caverns
Ooh I really like how this one starts! Lots of energy, and I really like the trumpets all throughout. I also appreciate how it starts and then later goes back to an irregular time signature. Pretty great guitar solo at the end too. Lots of variety packed into this one.

Brand New - Missing You
One thing I've learned from a lifetime of listening to music is I tend to not pay attention to lyrics as much as other aspects of a song, so I feel like the impact of Missing You is a bit lost on me. There's nothing really objectionable here - I just don't connect it with quite that much.

1. Conisch - Attack
2. Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride and Joy
3. BitBurner - Don't Shoot Food
4. Brand New - Missing You

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride and Joy
Kicking things off with a song I've actually heard before! I always liked SRV's voice even more than his guitar work. I particularly love the vibrato when he sings "joy". Pretty solid rock/blues track.

Conisch - Attack
Very ominous 7/8(?) piano that turns into even more ominous light glitch. Gives off the feeling of escaping from something on a moonlit night. Halfway through it totally changes tempo, an unexpected surprise, but it still maintains that eerie sense of anticipation. This song does lots of things I tend to like in music: piano, glitch, spooky aura.

BitBurner - Don't Shoot Food
I thought this was going to be a fairly standard faux chiptune, but then it gets weird and distorted with laser sound effects, which is good, because I like that a lot more than standard faux chiptune! I like the percussive nature of the various sound effects and how they add to the song.

1. Conisch - Attack
2. Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride and Joy
3. BitBurner - Don't Shoot Food

what is your favorite music

I have some free time today, so I thought I'd do a little music ranking. This isn't a "formal" ranking topic, where you nominate songs and I unveil them gradually over a period of months...er, time. This will be something less structured. Basically you can post one song, and I will rank it in the topic with a little writeup. When I get to your song, you can post another. Pretty simple!

I like video game music, but you're welcome to nominate anything basically anything, including non-VGM. Nothing longer than 15 minutes though, and please provide a link for every song.

I don't make any promises that this topic will last any longer than today. Think of it like a pop-up topic. A popic. Is that a thing? Sure.

At the beginning of the contest, I said that Id Purpose was a song that's fluctuated everywhere from an 8 to a 4. For the duration of this contest it's been at a 4.5. Today, it's a 7.

What a strange song.
