I was reading a health blog on Blogspot in Internet Explorer, which was a rare browser for me to use at the time--2013 or 2014--and I suspect the proprietor had unknowingly partnered with some unscrupulous entities for his embedded ad panel because when I came back my stuff was locked out by ransomware, including after restarting the computer. Fortunately, it wasn't so sophisticated that it transmitted any data or encrypted my files. I booted into Linux on a live USB and removed the relevant files, never used IE again, and installed Debian on my hard drive shortly thereafter which was my primary OS for a few years.

I've probably taken a few hundred cold showers over the years, and a few ice baths and cold plunges. It was difficult the first few times, but you figure out how to deal with it. I don't do it very often anymore because I didn't perceive any benefit from it aside from general preparedness.

Yes. In 1998 I liked to participate in their chat rooms, where my favorite was the Bungalow. Shout out to VanBrain, peppyhare2000, and lightwarrior5. IIRC, the chat rooms were only open for a few hours at a time on scheduled days of the week.

Never quite got through The Count of Monte Cristo or started War and Peace, but I read the Silo series in a 1,700-page volume recently.

I remember several of those usernames, but not much about most of their personalities. I know that Sir Q is dead. I remember that Doodleheimer was concerned obnoxious. Duckbeard lasted surprisingly long here with the same posting style but I think he was given a permanent boot about a year ago.

I tried watching it recently but couldn't get into it, just like when I was a kid. The comic is incredible though.

I'm sure they're all doing OK. Each of them was pretty bright and had a great sense of humor. chickenboy was a little older but I'm pretty sure at least his eldest is older than he was when he started posting here. I think I first met cb in the official GameFAQs IRC channel. I wonder if he took the kids out of London.

I'm not married with children, but I have a career for now and I earned ****-you money with three good trades in 2020-2021. More importantly, I'm healthy and generally feel pretty good about life. I think people's lives here are better than we think, and when I see someone with a high karma-to-account-age I usually think something like, "Good for them." I assume GameFAQs is a source of stability for them in some way.
