Also I wonder if @Glass_Phantom is aware that Mosaddeq nationalized the installations in Iran of the British-owned Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. This gave him tremendous power but made him very unpopular with the British. It also made the political and economic problems in Iran much worse because of the destabilization the nationalization introduced.

He was an outspoken nationalist. The shah were at odds with him and his followers even before any CIA coup.

The British withdrawal from Iranian oil market also caused a lot of issues. But you can't really blame the British for withdrawing, seeing as their property was seized and nationalized so callously.

The tl;dr is that you're a fool if you think the CIA just went in and disrupted a perfectly peaceful and stable society. Iran was falling apart long before the CIA backed any coup.

So is there some deeper conspiracy being covered up or was this witness's death just awful coincidence?

And the Middle East has also had dictators foisted upon them. How much different would the Middle East be today if President Eisenhower hadn't authorized the CIA to orchestrate the coup d'etat in 1953? What if Mosaddegh had been able to govern, and the Persian people were given a taste of democracy? How far would that butterfly effect have gone?

The middle east was imperialistic ever since Islam was invented. These types of struggles and coups are part and parcel of being a middle eastern country. It's a stretch to blame the British or the Americans for anything that is going on in the middle east. I refer you back to my post about Gamel Abdel Nassar.

But the solution is not the eradication of Islam or waging some war against it. It's enlightenment and progressivism. Just like Western Christianity evolved, so can Islam.

islam has been around for a long time and it hasn't changed for the better. and you'd argued either in this topic or another topic that christianity hasn't really progressed all that much considering christian stances against homosexuals, so it seems you're picking and choosing when to claim christianity has evolved and when to claim "we're no better than islamic countries"

maybe the solution is no more religion at all, because sky fairies dictating who should live and who should die seems awfully banal

it impacts us more when it happens here because our way of life has progressed much more, to the point where you're not used to seeing those terrible things happen to your own brothers and sisters. empathy is certainly a driving factor in that.

The regressive viewpoints of the Islamic world aren't due to religion as much as they're due to the fact that those people have been molded by regressive governments for much of the past century. Rarely do I ever hear anyone remark on what the Muslim world was like prior to 1979 (the Iranian Revolution), because I reckon most of you are very young (in your 20s or early 30s), you've grown up only knowing 9/11 and the wars since, and you don't have the long lens of history to remember how things were in the 1980s and 1970s, or even further back, before Salafism had a chance to be exported. Basically, a video of white supremacists beating a black man went viral. The media, especially outlets like The Young Turks, were saying it's an example of oppression and etc.

Then it turned out that the black man was charged with a felony. But new video evidence came out that shows that Deandre was actually the one who instigated the violence by attacking an elderly man and hitting him on the head with a steel flash light after trying to steal his Confederate flag. That's why he was attacked back and that's why he got the felony charge.

People donated $166,000 to Deandre's GoFundMe campaign after he put one together to ask for help with medical expenses, but it turns out Deandre used the money to buy a brand new Mercedes and make a rap video.

What's scary is the number of people on Youtube who are commenting and saying that they agree with what Deandre did and that they wish that he shot the old guy instead because "the only Nazi is a good Nazi" and things like that. It's scary how quickly people are becoming so hyper partisan and hyper politicized to the point where it feels like this country is about to get fractured into another civil war because of people who are quick to talk and quick to act.

Men that face these issues need counseling, therapy, good lawyers, and actual support from people. They don't need to reassure each other that women suck and that the system has it out for them. That is the opposite of help and support.
