Hypoxia like that can lead to cardiac arrest and if I was able to achieve ROSC on the patient, his life will never be the same. Ventilators and intubation is our only option at that point to give the patient a fighting chance for extubation once the lungs recover. We also follow a protocol (called ARDSnet, look it up) to prevent barotrauma for intubated patients. I am so fucking sick of these stupid ass conspiracy theories on how we are hiding shit. We have no evidence on how to manage COVID19 patients and all of our guidelines are based on shitty studies and our past knowledge about ARDS. I fucking hate when people spread garbage like this. --- |

When the crisis happened in our NYC hospital, we had to spent a shitload of money to get wireless pule oximetry monitoring for a 400 bed hospital. Imagine how much that cost us. We also ran out of nursing staff and had to get more nurses by making contract with agency nurses. Imagine how much that costs. Because if the amount of COVID19 patients going in, our medical supplies are always down and it needs to be constantly resupplied, imagine how much that cost us. My hospital isn't part of those major network either, so we are all on our own here. --- |
