Wtf, I just got my fifth off banner Brave Lucina doing my free summon today. This game really likes throwing Lucinas at my face. Could have at least given me that new Bow Lucina instead!

I was actually able to beat the Infernal Lucina battle on the first try, but then it took me like 3 tries to beat it on Lunatic. I don't know how that happened, ha.

Got an Azura and NY Camilla in about 60 orbs. Both -Att, of course. The last 5 focus units I've pulled have been -Att, which is just lovely.

Gets me thinking, what's everyone's highest merge on a five star exclusive?

I've got a +3 Brave Lucina and a +2 regular Lucina. All of them were off banner and all of them happened around the same time. It was so weird, the game was literally throwing Lucinas at my face. I also have a +2 regular Ike (all off banner), a +2 Katarina, and a +2 Ephraim. The extra Ephraims and Katarinas were all welcome since those are units that I used all the time anyway.

All of my Ikes and regular Lucinas have been -Att or -Spd, which is a bummer.

I still play Street Fighter the most, and it's still the game I end up doing the best in. But I also enter Guilty Gear at any tournament, and play that as much as SF these days. The last three monthly tournaments I've attended here, I've actually finished in the top 3 for GGXrd somehow, though that hasn't translated to success at major tournaments yet.

I also am kind of playing a whole load of other things now too. I'll sign up for Mystery Game or Windjammers if those show up at a tournament. I'm still playing Dragon Ball FighterZ. I'm trying to learn Tekken 7 and UNIST when people bring those to casuals. I also mess around with older Street Fighter games, which happens more lately thanks to that anniversary edition.

Oh yeah, I remember you saying you play Guilty Gear. You play Ky, right? I think I remember you posting a long time ago a match that you played in a pretty big tournament. I've always liked Guilty Gear casually, but I totally suck at anime games. They're way too hard for me. I really really like UNIST and I wish I could play it more, but no one really plays around here so I can't practice at all and I'll always be terrible at it. Chaos is so much fun to play.

I hope I get a chance to play in a mystery game tournament at EVO, those always seem like they'd be a blast.

I was not a Tekken fan until T7. I've tried playing and watching games in this series before and never could get into them, but this game hits the spot for me. Why is it? I'm not quite sure. I'm not that good at the game because it's like 5th or 6th down the rung of games I practice, and because others who play have been playing forever, but I have fun.

There's nothing wrong with playing Jack! He's just not very fun to watch compared to most characters, which is unfortunate since most top players consider him a top 5 character, so he sees a lot of tournament play. At least you're not some Lucky Chloe playing degenerate. j/k Chloe is fine

EVO interest peaked a few years ago for me. I even entered as trash fodder in like 2013. Not sure if I'll ever go back, but this year I'm hardly even paying attention to the event's existence. The death of Marvel probably plays a big part-- not sure there'll be a game that can fill that void as far as interest goes for me. I'll probably pay some attention to DBZ Fighter and Guilty Gear but that's about it.

I was always kind of a casual fan of Marvel, and even I'm super bummed about how badly Capcom dropped the ball on Infinite.

Also, I know that a lot of B8ers aren't huge fans of Tekken, but even if you're not really an enthusiast I think the game is very viewer friendly and fun to watch, so give it a shot!

Thanks man. Clutching it out like that felt good. But man watching it back I can tell I made a looooot of mistakes. The main thing is my execution was not on point at all. I noticed that when I'm on 2P side, I accidentally get a lot of d/f+4 instead of the big "wipe the floor" sweep that I'm going for. And I got a few accidental b+1 inputs too, and my opponent was really good at whiff punishing and launched me every time. I'll definitely have to work on that.

Yes, let us know your pools, we can tell you who your opponents play, and therefore all the top strats to win. Also, make sure to network with your local scene and see if you can find anyone else going to Evo. It helps just having anyone in your corner if you can get it.

Last year, they started had these rubber wristband things and handed them out to everyone who made it out of their pool. It was a pretty cool feature and made getting out of pools even more special.

I'll be sure to post my pools as soon as they go up! I'm trying to network with my scene a bit, I just usually can't go to the monthly tournaments it conflicts with my work schedule. I think tomorrow I'll have time to go to casuals. The guy who won the tournament I posted is a real nice guy, and I know he's going to EVO too. He said he wanted to play some matches with my Nina the next time I went to casuals, so hopefully that'll be a good learning experience. I think I'm starting to gain a reputation as "the Nina guy", since she's a pretty rare character and I'm the only one who plays her in my area haha .

Hello, I am an unapologetic BB Tag fanboy.

The game is still new enough that there isn't a consensus yet on who the real best of the best characters and teams are. It's a very neutral-focused game with very strong defensive options to counteract the offensive power of having three separate assists available pretty much whenever you want. It also has exceptional freedom of action, to the point where if you can imagine an interaction between your point character and an assist, you can probably make that interaction happen and it will probably work the way you hope. This leads to all sorts of fun mixups and setups that look spectacular and can be hard to deal with despite the defensive options.

There are some parts of the game that are so annoying they've become community memes (mainly stuff from RWBY - Red Like Roses Part II, I Burn, Ruby's English voice acting) but the fundamental game is very solid, fast paced, and fun.

Sounds interesting! I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

Hopefully you have a good time! There's definitely a lot of stuff to see and watch there. I also believe last year was the best Evo ever was about being able to find open time & stations to get casuals on, so hopefully you can get in some matches that way as well. And don't forget to stay hydrated, the dryness there can sneak up on you.

Damn, that's too bad! I even considered tagging you in the opening post since I remembered you've gone before. Yeah, I'm definitely thinking of bringing a little cooler or something. I'm from AZ so I'm pretty used to the heat, but I'll still be cautious.

That was pretty cool when Kazunoko won that recent major with Yamcha. My biggest hope for DBZF is that the top 8 on Sunday is exciting to watch. Personally, I don't really think DBZF is that fun to watch, but maybe the crowd hype will help me get pumped for it.

After living in Vegas for six years, I finally went with my brother last year. It was fun, but $40 a day seemed a little steep for guys like us who basically just wanted to watch Melee, so not sure if I'll go this year. Some random notes from last year:

- DBZ, which wasn't released at the time, had the largest crowd outside the main stage.
- People were nice.
- We saw Ken standing around some of the Melee tables. Really small dude.
- Lots of swag being sold, including one makeshift corridor full of pervy waifu stuff which we called "rethink your life alley"

I'm really excited to buy some cool merch! Knowing my brother and his friends, we're definitely going to be heading down the pervy waifu corridor, oh boy haha. I'm pretty unfamiliar with Smash players, but is Ken the guy that was on Survivor?

The stars aligned and I'm finally able to go this year. I've never been, but I'm really excited about it!

I'm signed up for Tekken and Street Fighter, but I'll probably find some side tournaments to enter as well. I'm definitely gonna get bopped in Street Fighter since I've barely played since season 2, but I'm hoping I can at least win a game or two in Tekken. I went to a local tournament last night for the first time in forever and I came in 5th out of about 20 or so, so there's some hope for me yet!

Anybody else going to be able to make it out this year? Maybe we can meet up and play some Melty Blood or Catherine or some shit.

These are awesome pulls. I have a +Spd -Def Sothe and he puts in serious work as a mass buffer/debuffer. He's a super underrated unit, IMO.

Changes:
- Finally splurged on Quick Riposte 3
- Used the Bike I got on this banner to give him Steady Breath instead of Steady Stance 3
- Sacrificed my Lene (RIP) to give him Safeguard+
- Gave him Close Def seal instead of the flat Def seal

With the changes he now reaches 60 defense when directly attacked (43 base + 4 from Steady Breath + 7 from Safeguard + 6 from Close Def), and that's without buffs. I originally used the flat Defense +3 seal to minimize damage from Brave Lyn and other ranged threats, but typically archers and dagger users don't reach >54 attack unless they have crazy buffs. Plus the Close Def seal means he takes less damage from common dragon threats like Myrrh.

Nice, I got Leif from my free pull (-Att of course, but still neat), and then I got a Brave Ike when I did a 20 pull. My Laslow has been waiting for Steady Breath for a very long time! Now I'm trying to decide if I should use the Steady Breath to make him an over the top physical megatank or if I should sacrifice some of his bulk so that he can nuke fools with Ignis. I'm leaning towards the former for now, but I might end up changing my mind.

Yeah, I just listened to Mia's voice clips and I actually don't really mind them. I like that they went through the trouble to get the original voice actress from Radiant Dawn even though she literally only has like two goofy lines in the whole game. Her voice is still super goofy, but I think it suits Mia.

Noire's voice, on the other hand, I find to be incredibly grating. She's basically whispering in this annoying voice with this weird, unnatural cadence and then she randomly starts yelling. There's nothing about it I like.

Noire's VA is as bad as I initially thought. Even the angry voice isn't as good as in Awakening.

It's like she thought to herself "what if I took the voice I did for Noire in Awakening and made it sound more like Peri?" Never a good idea!

Okay, I just pulled Noire and I would like to second this. Like wtf, it's so bad. When she says "This swimsuit.....it's.....a LiTtLe AwKwArD" it reminds me of Nicki Minaj doing her over-exaggerated Nicki Minaj voice on her Monster verse, except it's terrible and makes no sense. Easily my least favorite voice acting in the game, though I don't have Mia so I don't know if her voice is as terrible as I've heard.

Spent about 90 orbs on the summer banner, mostly doing full 20 pulls. I had really good luck on the green stones. I got:

-Summer Innes (+HP, -ATT)
-Sonya (+SPD, -HP)
-Amelia (+HP, -RES)
-A 4* Soren, which is the last one I need to finish my 40+10 Soren

Kinda funny Summer Innes has the exact same bad IVs as my regular Innes, but oh well. The Amelia I got also has the same IVs as the Amelia I already had, so there's not much to do but merge her. Sonya is new, and with good IVs to boot, so that's cool.
