But the galaxy it designed that you got a glimpse of through the costuming, the set design, the spaceships, etc. blew people away. Inkshares is already experimenting with the business model of crowdfunded books with a print-to-demand model instead of traditional publishing. I think this has the potential to become much bigger than it currently is. On the more extreme end, there could be, in rare cases, a return to patronage. And then you have authors today who make all their content free and support themselves entirely through sites like Patreon, with exclusive perks for paying customers. Brandon Sanderson made Warbreaker available for free. It didn't stop anyone I know from buying a copy, and it got a bunch of people into his books. Here's his statement on the matter.
