I took basically every AP class option that was available. Started as a 2nd year student credit wise when I went to uni.

Honestly AP classes weren't even that hard.

They seem hard at my school. They make you read lots of books in English and have active discussion, in social studies you have to not just memorize names and rivers. In science you have to think. In math you have daily hw. In Spanish you have so much hw and cant take exam with a dictionary

Sounds right to me. Were the normal classes not this way?

Uh no

Math- you watch teacher do it and class work which kids goof on and teacher gets mad lol
Science- memorize vocab and thats it
English- round robin reading the whole time, no hw, only honors and AP get assigned novels
Social studies - memorize facts, do a coloring book on geography
Spanish- vocab, we get to use a dictionary on tests but not quizzes

This is an actual high school? That's easier than my classes were in elementary school.

Yes this was when I was in hs, I was in all standars classes from 9-12!

It's not even about analyzing the book.

You literally need to think about the words you read in order to understand what they mean when they are put together.

But not a lot, there are words which I dont know that I have to skip over

In Harry Potter, you just read and thats it. Nothing really to understand or analyze. Its just a story

Not really lol

No it does. You wouldn't understand anything you "read" if you just mindless read through a book. Like you are basically just complaining that basic concepts are too hard for you.

Do you actually analyze a book you read? I dont I just read and not think

And yes, concepts are hard! Its like a video game

I am in normal mode, if I go to hard mode or extreme I lose 100 times

Face it, honors and AP are for people who like school and want to go to college. Standard is for peeps who just want to have fun, never do work and enjoy high school

I had daily homework in all of my math classes from like 3rd grade on.

As for reading books & discussing them in English-- A, that's fucking easy & B, that's a better way to learn in my experience than just writing papers.

As for Spanish, I took several foreign languages over the years & never was anyone allowed to use a dictionary.

That is NOT ducking easy. You have to read the book and think about it! And answer detailed questions and use critical thought. This is way too fucking hard especially for teens! So many hard words, at least in my classes we dont explain the book, we just read in class and go over the question in textbook which are still hard but whatever

Also you guys must have behaved peers. I was loud in class but nothing compared to half my classmates

Fun times tho I dont remember the academic stuff but remember the fun battles in class

AP and normal classes really are for different types of people. some people find it difficult to do a fair amount of meaningful assignments that are actually engaging and get you to think critically about things, and some people find it difficult to drudge through endless, meaningless busywork that doesn't actually teach you anything except short-term memorization.

This was the thing in NYC. There was always two segments. The people taking APs and honors and the people barely passing remedial stuff. One was mostly white people and immigrant children and the other was everybody left in the hood (all colors of people including poorer immigrants and whites).

Funny thing is that everybody that put even a little effort in no matter the situation they were in are doing pretty good now. It's only the people who gave up that are still struggling.

Yeah thats me, except they call it standard not remedial

Exactly, a lot of kids just want the bare minimum and the teacher to leave them alone and not be uptight bitches. This is high school not work.

Leave the smart college bound peeps for AP. More than half of the school is regular, if you make them do AP, guess what?

All of your AP classes will rowdy. Which isnt a bad thing. Im sure in your classes you have people talking half the time, having dance battles or rap battles, breaking up bullying a kid, burping contests during lecture and girls having fashion off

- I wouldn't have gone to top college without APs
- Kept me ahead in terms of registering for college classes
- Subjects are more interesting
- Saved quite a bit of money in the long run
- May not relate to some people, but I much preferred staying in classes with AP students rather than regular students

Hard disagree on saying high school is the best time of your life by the way. APs were one of the only ways to make high school more interesting and fulfilling. College is much better time for life experiences.

I disagree. High school is A-mazing! You have fun times with your core group of friends and have lots of fun moments. You can joke around, hit on girls and have dance battles in the hallways

How are AP interesting and fulfilling iyo? If its too hard or too much work it doesnt make hs fun. Standard at least you can have fun

But, if youre in high school, it means extra work.

lol, no. i took AP English, History and Government classes in all of high school except 9th grade, and having taken the normal classes in 9th grade, i'm able to compare them and i can say the AP classes assigned much less busywork than the normal classes. you were treated as an adult, and you were given assignments that actually mattered instead of things that were just something the teacher could slap a grade on. it might be a different story for AP math classes, i wouldn't know about that.

also AP classes give you college credits. i didn't have to take English 101 or 102 when i went to community college, and most of the stuff we covered in 103 Critical Thinking and Composition was covered in my 12th grade English class, even though that didn't give me credit for 103.

So you had less homework and studying time? Then I want those AP classes lol.

You had to be chosen for AP and my grades in standard were all Cs and Ds

Thats one thing I never got. Why? At our school like 10% would but they were like the super smart kids or nerds that had parents who wanted them to study all day.

But, if youre in high school, it means extra work. I took 1 honors class and it was too much, they assigned hw every day! And it wasnt like 5 minutes hw, you had to spend like 30 mins sometimes an hour! I switched back to regular classes.

High school is about socializing, showing off fashion and being around people. Why would kids make it hard on themselves in the best time of their lives? Dont they like sports or clubs? Besides colleges dont care, except for like super top ones lol

that's odd usually it's the girl on the phone when she's bored on a date

Nope it was me, they asked me how my day was and I said fine and that was it.

I have nothing to talk about so I got bored while waiting for food and played games. Then we ate and paid and left

I feel like in society everyone is pressuring us to date and be in relationship, but I never want that.

I dont want to date or marry. Also I hate dealing with people. And I hate dates, nothing to talk about

I went out on a dinner date and was so bored I was playing Mario on my phone while drinking wine
