i like hearing cool stuff about games. like what dark souls does for the medium or all the stuff you can do in botw. don't want to actually play them.

and i don't want to learn about a battle system or s*** like that so generally the games i play now days are very simplistic or things i already know about.

i want to say chocolate but i'm unsure how i feel about rocky road at the moment.

when i was a kid i was into rainbow sherbert. definitely can't do that anymore.

i mean considering that BBT is one of the most targeted shows in terms of hate and you listed it as a 10/10 show i'm legitimately curious about that perspective which is why i asked "why"

you listed it alongside shows like The Office, Scrubs, and Futurama which means you think it is on the same level as those and that seems like such an anomaly here that i want more insight into that unique perspective.

not even close to the point that i know i'm going to want to die if i dwell on it any further because there's no one to blame but myself

i've been putting off starting a new book. i know it's going to be one of five or so books but i haven't gotten around to actually starting one of them. that first session tends to be where i get through a lot of it and i feel like i have to be in the mood.

i meant like one where the teaching aspect is a big focus of the show.

i guess the downside would be having a lot of kid actors. and kid actors suck a lot of the time.

i forgot what i said for the games topic and wish i had saved it so i could just paste it here. something about wanting to be finished with the medium in the sense that i've checked out everything that could potentially be a favorite that's already released and only concerning myself with the one or two new releases that interest me.

Has anyone read Haruki Murakami stuff? what are his books actually about

I read a short story called Super Frog Saves Tokyo, and that was awesome, but I dunno if a short story conveys what the rest of his stuff is

i haven't got around to it yet but it's definitely on my to-read list.

i personally love going into things blind and just figuring out as much as i can by myself, so i'd suggest just jumping into one of his more famous works even without knowing anything about it. Norwegian Wood, 1Q84, and Kafka on the Shore are the ones i hear the most about so maybe just start reading one of those?

i read book 1 of the Cupcake Diaries series. and it's about what you would expect from a children's series about a quartet of middle school girls who make cupcakes.

But one instance that really made me laugh/cringe was when they described a make-up booth run by the "popular" middle school girls. oh god

i'm making a reading list for a 3rd grade girl. are any of you guys familiar with children's lit? she's starting to read longer chapter books so i don't want books that are too easy but nothing challenging to the point that half the content will fly over her head (happened recently with Harry Potter #2). preferably "lighter" storytelling titles (e.g. Roald Dahl). It feels like an awkward middle ground.

i have a bunch of stuff i read around that time but i don't know anything about more recent titles. been looking around some lists but would like some recs if anybody has good suggestions.

so far i have:

11th grade I was in AP Language and Composition. We didn't read anything aside from articles and some poetry. It was purely a writing class.

i also took AP Lang in junior year but my teacher then and the other teachers that taught that class still had reading lists. was that something particular to your teacher or throughout your school?

we barely did any reading books in middle school. mostly out of the anthology so excerpts, short stories, and poetry.

high school is where it got pretty fun for me since we read a bunch of stuff. especially in junior and senior year what you read was dependent on what teacher you had along with the few required ones that everyone in the department had to assign. after being part of enough conversations where people complained about the books they had to read, i tracked down nearly everything that had a chance of being assigned in the school and read those too because i didn't want to miss out on anything.

There are some things it seems like all kids read as class novels in middle and high school that I never did.

are there any in particular you remember?

this topic title is a Moby Dick reference for those that didn't know. along with the obvious Hitchhiker reference.

went to school in southern California. i'll post what i can remember of my reading list.

actually it was more like a "HA!"

question: how well aware do you consider yourself about literature? whenever i mention something that i read, i just mention the title because i assume everyone else knows what i'm talking about since i consider myself behind in this. i'm unaware of a lot of the more contemporary, popular stuff so usually if i've even heard of something it's because it's considered a classic or it got too big to ignore. and by "too big to ignore" i mean it was a subject of multiple national stories or otherwise controversial. i don't pay attention to awards or anything like that so i couldn't tell you what's won any Pulitzer or anything like that.

i guess i'll start including a sentence or two on what the books are about in case people don't know and might get interested. what about for classics (like pre-1960)?

I'm currently reading YA lit because I'm in college to teach high school and we cover a lot of young adult novels.

have you read Because You'll Never Meet Me or One for the Murphys? two YA ones i've read recently that i enjoyed. i also read Speak recently but didn't think much of it.

i finished Sinclair's The Jungle. the description of poisoned rats being shoved in the rest of the meat that was eventually packaged was quite lovely.

i had to roll my eyes a little at the amount of shit the main character goes through i mean jeez. reminded me of Native Son with the ending. how great is socialism/communism eh?

are your books that worn from use or did you buy some pre-owned like i did?

part of my shelf after i moved the figures out of the way. the other part of the shelf shows it better but there was some attempt at organization before i gave up somewhere down the road.

note that i haven't read some of these but i got to say looking at it now it feels me with determination.

i constantly renew books even when finished because i'm too lazy to go and return them until i'm forced to.

libraries are so cool

i generally don't bother with ratings but i finally rated some stuff on goodreads to check out their recommendations.
