He's British Han Solo, he's the second most story important character but that's not saying a lot (Ashe is basically the main character, Basch is third but is just there in the later half of the game, Fran, Vaan and Penelo are basically irrelevant, Fran does some forest people stuff but that's it.)

This pretty much. It's fine to like Balthier/dashing rogue types in media, but if someone says you act like that in real life I'd question their intentions.

At the time it came out Vesperia was a good step forward for the series. Since then it has been eclipsed in all areas. It could still be a top tier tales game if not for that third act.

If you're interested on where to go from here, I highly recommend Tales of Berseria and Tales of Graces f.

Graces f is polarizing in that it has a great cast and excellent battle system, but the plot is extremely basic/cliche/cheesy. It's still the most fun I've had with Tales.

Berseria is the most recent entry and is considered by many to be the best in the series.

some awkward settler colonial stuff in here, but certainly not as tone deaf as uncharted/tomb raider games. this is a good game but I can't really remember the plot whatsoever. the lore is more memorable, but even then it's not super original.

when I think of "garage rock" I think of stuff like hot snakes, ty segall, the dirtbombs etc.

but I checked the wiki and I guess this early 00's stuff is included too.

I'd say the Hives are my favorite overall. So many of these bands have singular records that blow anything the Hives did out of the water(ToTBL, Is this It, Elephant), but the Hives are remarkably consistent.

I completed this game and remember liking it, but I struggle to recall much more than that. I remember that it was kind of wacky but none of the characters or emotional moments made any real impact on me.

TMS's story is pretty bad; I don't think it has much in common with Persona other than aesthetic. The story is more similar to the barebones aspects of SMT, except hidden behind a bright and colorful idol veneer. In other words, the Persona games are much better in terms of story.

It's not even the idol aspects that are the most at fault (though it is definitely cringey); it's just bad pacing/plotting/dialogue the entire way through. It is a shame, because the battle system is great and the dungeons are actually kind of creative.

I just want to state for the record that I have played Ghost Trick and I enjoy it very much. Any displeasure I have with the contest results should not be interpreted as a dislike of Missile the dog.

Persona Series:
Persona 4 Golden --> Persona 5 Royal ---> Persona 3 Portable (or FES, if you can't stand the Visual Novel esque changes to the interface)

SMT:
SMT IV ---> SMT III: Nocturne (featuring Dante)

Someone else is probably more qualified to speak about SMT, since those are the only two I've played. I'm pretty confident about that pathway for Persona though. This gives you a good place to start, so you can see the QoL improvements that Persona 5 made. Then if you become a superfan after P4 and P5, you can go back and play P3.

IMO the first two Persona games aren't worth playing anymore. That's harsh, but they've just aged terribly. It's a shame because I quite like the plot/aesthetic of the P2 games. The battle systems are just ROUGH though.

I don't post in this topic unless I've played a game. I try to not post about a game's story unless I've played the whole thing. But good lord, this game is one of the few times I was actually too embarrassed by weird anime stuff and too annoyed by Nopon voice acting to continue on. I peaced out when the goth loli robot showed up and I don't regret it one bit. I have a high tolerance for this stuff (I played all the way through Akiba's Trip and Tokyo Mirage Sessions for christ sakes) but this was beyond the pale.

1/10 sorry not sorry. If a game's story is so bad/cringe it makes me quit it deserves a 1 I think.

I'm all for writing as a means of coping, and it takes a bit of bravery to post something like this, so kudos!

That being said I think it's a bit cliche what with the river/light/shackles/aura of angels imagery as they relate to death.

"There was a magic to this place since it defied every reality I've ever known" - you gotta show this rather than tell, which is obviously difficult since it's beyond reality. But you gotta try I think. Do more with the plain colors all around and the river.
