| bobbaaay 12/14/18 10:11:47 PM #31 | Min maxing is exactly what got me away from videogaming and into tabletop. Trust me -- I used to min/max a TON in videogames. I'd save before level ups and write down stat gains to try and find ideal gains, etc. I had an entire notebook full of Hoshigami stat gains -- and I'd make sure all my characters got max AGI in Tactics Ogre. But that got so tedious. In videogames you can hit a progress wall, and if you want to do a certain build and it's not ideal -- you can't get further in the game. In roleplaying a good DM can adjust difficulty to the party's abilities, find other ways to create challenges that aren't just combat, find unconventional ways of engaging combat, etc. That's why I would never want to play Pathfinder or 3.5. I don't want to feel like a videogame again, and feel like I'm "forced" to build my character a certain way -- or I'm "forced" to performing a certain role through player knowledge rather than character knowledge. I think it's cheesy as fuck. That's why I'm way more into games like Ironclaw than D&D nowadays - because I'm so sick of the edition wars, and I'm sick of 3.5/PF fanboying. |

My ex made me get them, and at one point after her I was meeting up with someone to have sex -- but had swamp ass and had no clean clothes, so I showered and bought some without looking at the size. Sooo I have XXL boxer briefs that are basically boxers at this point, and I'm embarrassed to wear them in locker rooms etc. I only wear mankinis, "banana hammocks," etc. because -- your special package is in the mail ;) Usually black ones. I have some nice CK ones. Plus I don't want to look like I'm a slob (boxers) or a fuckboy (boxer briefs) |

Everything up to, and including, 2 is way too magic heavy. 3 and 3.5 are way too min-maxy and kind of lame and discourage roleplay -- because why on earth would someone with a +2 in a skill check do something when someone else has an absurd +32 or something? 4 is too combat heavy, even though I do like its combat. 5 makes non-magic classes feel "better" in combat, it doesn't feel as min-maxy, and it still has the kind of feel of earlier editions. This is from my limited experience playing anything other than 4 and 5, though. |
