benbeverfaqs 11/22/17 7:54:32 AM #47 | AllstarSniper32 posted... benbeverfaqs posted...Smash Brothers can be used as a party game with the right settings. Nah, that just makes it more boring imho. The attraction of the smash series (other than characters) is in the levels and items. Fighting games don't have to be 1v1. IK+ for example is a three player fighting game. Cause while smash can involve skill, you don't have to have skill to play it well, since you know, with the default settings there's things like items to help you out. and it says elimination is "rare" not that if that there is elimination that automatically makes it not a party game. I mean Mario Party is considered a party game right? And even it has elimination. That's the point of making it to the end and declaring a winner. Items help everyone. Knowing how to use (and dodge) them involve experience and skill. It just makes the game more random, but a first time player doesn't have much chance against an experienced player. I've never played Mario Party with elimination (and I've played it a lot). Smash bros is not a party game according to the wiki pages. I personally consider it a party game. And a fighting game. And an action game. When categorizing I'd file it under fighting game, which, to me, makes the most sense, and it seems to be the norm. Mario Kart is a racing game. And a party game. I'd file it under racing, since that's its theme. There's not much else to do. Mario Party has fighting, racing, luck games and a lot of other stuff, so I'd file that in the genre of party games. That 4 player kirby game is a platform game. And imho also a party game. |

However, in the case of categorizing video game into genres, setting a norm is very useful. The system of platformer, beat-em-up and shoot-em-up is a bit arbitrary, but people know what someone is talking about. Like an example given in this topic; one can argue that any game where you play as a character is an rpg. This might be true, but it defeats the purpose, and isn't useful in categorizing. If someone at home puts his copy of smash bros on the shelf with party games, that's fine. It'd even makes sense if that is what he plays when friends are over. But in a shop or list, people will look in the fighting games section. Otherwise people'll have a hard time finding it. I see no reason not to stick to the definition (also a norm) of fighting games. |

benbeverfaqs 11/22/17 6:47:31 AM #3 | I don't know much about this case, but he served 39 years in prison for two murders he might not even be guilty of. Anyway, he's a different person at age 59 after almost 4 decades in prison compared to the 20 year old drug addict he was. Having him in prison is not helping society at all anymore. He's not a threat. And having him serve more years won't make it more of an example to discourage other people. So yes, at some point, after decades, parole may apply in some cases. The opposite system, like we have in the netherlands is worse: This guy got 7 years in prison for violently raping 2 children and 5 armed robberies. On his first day as a free man (unmonitored) he raped and killed a 16 year old. |

benbeverfaqs 11/22/17 6:09:51 AM #6 | From the french radis de cheval and the german meerrettich. rettich is from latin radix and means root. meer is from mahre (female horse) from meer (sea or lake, meaning root that was brought from overseas or grows near the sea or lake) or from meer/mehr (which means more or bigger, so big root). It could've been big root in old german and mistranslated to horse. Mistranslations like that are common, and horse radish is a cooler name than big radish. |

Topic | Is Smash Bros. a fighting game? |
benbeverfaqs 11/22/17 5:35:05 AM #42 | A fighting game is a video game genre in which the player controls an on-screen character and engages in close combat with an opponent, which can be either an AI or controlled by another player. The fight matches typically consist of several rounds and take place in an arena, while each character has widely differing abilities but each is relatively viable to choose. Players must master techniques such as blocking, counter-attacking, and chaining attacks together into "combos". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighting_game Smash Brothers is listed here Which makes sense since it fits all criteria in the definition of fighting game Party games are games that are played at social gatherings to facilitate interaction and provide entertainment and recreation. Categories include (explicit) icebreaker, parlour (indoor), picnic (outdoor), and large group games. Party games aim to include players of various skill levels and player-elimination is rare. Party games are intended to be played socially, and are designed to be easy for new players to learn. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_game Smash Brothers is not listed here Smash Brothers can be used as a party game with the right settings. It's easy to learn, but it does involve skill and player elimination. With the right settings (no stock limit to avoid elimination, random items to increase luck) it can be a party game. But not in the same league as games designed to be a party game. People saying smash bros is not a fighting game are trying to be condescending and/or edgy, nothing more. |

benbeverfaqs 11/21/17 7:32:38 AM #4 | Yes, I rarely replay games. But they can be in my top10 anyway. Replayability is a factor, but for me a minor one. Pokmon for instance is basically the same game every release. And you build up a collection and a team. I've never played any pokmon game more than once. Doesn't mean they can't be in my top 10. I love Linear Story Driven action games, like Uncharted and The Last of Us, but I don't feel the need to play them more than once. After that I know the story and the plot twist. I try the hardest difficulty as soon as possible and use level select for the collectibles. I want the story one time and then it's shelved. Doesn't mean the experience can't make it into my top10 games. I've played Resident Evil 4 more than once, but most, almost all, horror games get one playthrough. Like Dead Space or Outlast. After a thorough playthrough I know the story, the twists and the jump scares. If the game was great it could go into my top10 games, even if I never touch it again. |

He was absolutely technically skilled, you can't argue that, but how you judge his art is on you. Nothing he painted on his show had any meaning to it, no emotion. Complete BS Art can be rated as good or bad on a lot of scales, fairly objectively, based on standards set by society and on what art lovers, in a certain time, like or don't like. That's why some art sells for millions and some (most) art is financially worthless. Simple examples of those scales are technique and originality. you're confusing taste with art. Taste is subjective. Bob Ross wasn't particulary technically skilled, that's why he used painting tricks to make certain landscapes. He was skilled in a lot of other areas though. Most things he painted had meaning to it. He spent the whole time talking about a paining while painting it. Most of the time the meaning was inner peace and things like that. The fact that you think they're "certainly physically attractive" doesn't mean that they are. That's taste again. I, for instance, don't think most of his paintings are physically attractive. benbeverfaqs 11/20/17 9:59:12 AM #31 | I use trigonometry sometimes, when building furniture or creating something. And math as a whole is incredibly useful, both in science and in everyday life. They need to teach way more of it at school. The thing is, you're not just learning math, you're also learning problem solving and you're learning how to learn difficult things. Basic chemistry, like the periodic table is very useful. Not just for my biology study at the university, but also for regular people, so they actually know what CO2 is when watching the news. So they understand what politicians and scientists are actually talking about. History, including examples from ancient civilizations, is incredibly useful in everyday decision making, and in understanding today's problem, both small scale and large scale. At school they teach broad sciences and knowledge and problem solving. This is way more useful than a bit of practical knowledge. - How to mortgage <-wait a decade or two or move to another country and this knowledge is useless. That's why they teach english, math and economics. - How to budget <-math and economics, and some schools actually teach budgetting - Basic car maintenance <-some school teach practical technical things. I learned how to repair cars from manuals and trying. Learning English and problem solving in school helped. - How to invest <-economics and math. - How to do taxes <-again will be outdated with time or when you move. Luckily you learn math, english and how to fill in forms at school. - Basic home repairs <-most schools teach this. And again this knowledge will be outdated with time. - All those numbers and words that come up in car commercials that mean literally nothing to me. <-you mean the words you learn in english class and the technical terms from natural sciences? - How to maintain a balanced diet <-this is literally learned in biology class. The most important thing you learn in school is how to learn. After that go to a library or use the internet to learn specific things you personally want to learn. Like cooking, or how to fly an airplane, or how to build a house or whatever. The only things in highschool that were completely useless were 4 years of french and 3 years of german. |

It's also the start of the working/school week. Sunday is the last day, hence why it's part of the weekEND. If Sunday was the first day, you'd start the week with half of the weekend. Some calendars start with Sunday. Luckily there's not many of them. I always steer clear of those. I've had one in the past, it was confusing for a whole year. Your poll explanation is kinda biased. You already tell people what to fill in by telling them one option is sometimes considered and the other option is official. Topic | do you think bob ross was a good painter? |
benbeverfaqs 11/20/17 6:33:53 AM #7 | He was a great painter. Nobody was better at what he did: speed painting landscapes for a camera. He made happy oil paint landscapes in no time at all, while explaining what he did, inspiring millions of viewers. Or just making his viewers feel relaxed. He used tricks and special brushes to draw trees and snowy mountain peaks quickly, which is an art in itself. The resulting paintings convey a positive and relaxing natural atmosphere, and could be used to decorate hallways, public buildings, offices and whatnot. He might've been not so great at drawing, and paintings other than landscapes didn't always turn out well. Also, the simple landscapes are not great pieces of art, you can't watch them for hours and there's no deeper meaning. But that doesn't mean he isn't a great (definitely good) painter. Your friend is jealous and/or ignorant. Sure there were/are better painters who could speed paint (or speed draw) anything, not just landscapes, like Picasso or Van Gogh. He was not as talented as those, but almost nobody is, so why compare. He was a television speed painter, and great at that. Compare him to other television speed painters like that guy who does flowers. Or with your own speed paint work. |

Since it's a "dream" the writers stopped caring, and have characters act out of character and do nonsense stuff. Naruto fans on myanimelist describe some of these episodes as acid in their eyes, and some score as low as 2/10 (where regular filler episode scores a 5 or 6 and a canon episode scores a 7 to 9). 451 to 457 is filler too, but it's semi-canon Itachi background story. People liked these episodes so only skip them if you dislike Itachi or his story. 460-462 and 464-468 are history episodes in a far past. They're semi canon I think, but they're not in the manga. I watched them and don't regret it. There are few fillers after that and they're all watchable.
