well-educated people are often forced to work minimum wage jobs

I mostly think that people should be able to live a decent life working a minimum wage job, even if they don't have full-time hours

A lo of property is built with the intet of using it as rental income. No rental income means they won't build the property, and again, you still have no place to live.

A lot of things as they are now wouldn't exist without a profit motive behind them. Take that away, and they don't exist.
jesus christ how can you guys be this dense. do you really think no one would ever build new buildings if there wasn't a private corporation making money by renting it out? do you think we've only had buildings since capitalism?

like are you seriously this uninformed or are you intentionally trying to get me to waste my time talking at you?

so you don't think the people who own those properties are being punished by not receiving rent from those tenants? the landlord likely has a mortgage on that property and is expected to pay the bank the same way tenants are expected to pay the landlord.
they would have to pay that mortgage whether or not they rented out the house though

A landlord if using a property management company still has to deal at times with things related to the business though most of the times it's easy stuff like giving the go ahead to replace a laundry machine that stopped working. It's like having an equity firm or something and owning a business but hiring a CEO to run it and shit.

For now I manage things myself cause overall it's not hard unless you venture out into 4 complex or buildings where you gotta do stuff daily.
ok. the money that a landlord makes is not directly contingent on doing any of those things. you make money as long as you own the building. that isn't a job.

Depends on how involved you are. If you manage a dozen different properties and you're constantly trying to take care of them and make sure the tenants are good and stuff then yeah that's a job.

It's not really a job if you rent out a house imo.
what you're describing in the first paragraph is a Property Manager. it is a job. "landlord" is not -- it's only contingent on owning the building

BalanceLost posted...
I have a question for you guys out of curiosity. The Government could not legally implement the type of lockdown most Western countries have imposed since it is illegal according to the Constitution. We have a minority Government and they did ask Riksdagen for certain emergency powers but Riksdagen only allowed a watered down version which has now expired since the law came with a time limit. So lets say that the Government now were to want a lockdown - should they violate the Constitution? Riksdagen would then have the PM removed from office though.
there are ways of dealing with this without going into full lockdown. and even full lockdown does not mean that people are actually restricted from leaving their home

Says the guy who has no arguments and thinks stuff should be free?

Cool story, peasant. Now go back to paying rent like society has deemed you have too; whining on the internet isn't getting you your Marxist utopia anytime soon.
lol

Only to losers. Half of IQ is problem solving. So here's a problem to solve: Go make more money.

Oh, you can't solve this problem? Probably because you aren't as clever as you think you are.
IQ isn't a valid measurement of intelligence.

and, believe it or not, one person making more money does not solve actual problems (for instance, poverty). the "problem" you offered is a suggestion, not a problem. that's why I can't "solve" it

Except it is, according to actual society, which is why rich people can buy what they want while you cannot.

Bitching about facts doesn't change reality.
please describe the train of thought that equates "merit" to "being able to buy what you want"

and while you're at it, maybe also don't dismiss this as "bitching"

Like what?
your equation of merit to wealth without defining either term, for one

Random fool on Gfaqs who thinks he's entitled to free shit thinks he's smarter than a Harvard economics professor...
where did I claim I was smarter than anyone? my only claim is that he isn't smart. he's certainly very bad at imagining more pressing issues facing society than allocation of beachfront homes

I hate to be a-hole to tell you: you're prob poor because you make bad life decisions, which is typically a sign of stupidity
and there's another thing that you made up

An overwhelming majority of houses are for sale, not for rent, and even the houses for rent are usually for rent because they cannot sell.

Even if we lowered the pricing of the houses or rent, that still doesn't mean the value goes to free. We live in a society based on merit. I'd be willing to pay $150k for that 300k market evaluation house, so why should you get it for free?

Also, most apts DO have to drop price if no one is renting their spaces, otherwise, they lose money or go bankrupt. Same with people selling houses.

That empty penthouse in Manhatten that is going for 40M that is unoccupied...Because it is unoccupied means the value should go from $40M to 0? Pretty sure there's a very large room for negotiation before it goes to the begger beneath the penthouse who is no shape or form entitled to such a property.

And if it was free, why do you get it? There are millions of Americans that would say yes to a free house, especially a free penthouse.
this is irrelevant

MajesticFerret posted...
If we use a merit system, the best metric is...money...which is exactly how we decide who gets to own what. If we don't use a merit system, fuck working hard and making our country have nice things.
