Do you? Think about living a society where everyone's gut reaction to a tragedy is to mock it vs a society where everybodies gut reaction is to feel compassion and want to help. What society do you think is going to have an overall kinder, more compassionate population?

You can say that it'll never happen or that it's not worthwhile because people will always do it, but the fact is no individual ever to be part of it. It also takes less effort to say nothing than it does to be actively shitty.

The people who think it's fine to laugh at these people because they're rich are engaging in the same lack of empathy that they're saying billionaires are awful for indulging in. People who claim "poor people die all the time and nobody cares" don't seem to realize you can care about both issues.

It's easy to be kind to your best friend, the measure of how good a person you are is how you treat your worst enemy. The funny thing is, I've seen a lot of people who comment on this situation (On this board included) who will proudly say no death penalty while exalting in their revenge fantasy of these billionaires getting what's coming to them.

If you stop to think about the gruesome fate of those 5 CEOs your mind will start to go crazy. Just imagining yourself in that situation, that primordial fear, that terror begins to bubble to the surface but briefly. Then you start to think those people actually in that situation is feeling that brief tinge of emotional suffering that you feel, only times 10000000.

That is lovecraftian. That's true dread, that's true terror.

Its just easier to dehumanize these people...I think its a subconsciously defensive trick that your mind plays on you in order to avoid going down that dark...dark...dark rabbit hole.
